Overview
The VX220 Turbo is one of those cars that reminds you the early 2000s got quite a lot right. Built on an extruded aluminium chassis developed alongside Lotus, this lightweight two-seater packed a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine producing 200 bhp into a body weighing just 930 kg. The result was a 0-62 mph time of 4.7 seconds, which remains properly quick by any standard. With ABS and a driver's airbag fitted as standard, it combined raw performance with enough reassurance that you could actually use it.
This particular car is something of a time capsule. Registered new in September 2005 and declared new at first registration, it's covered just 4,423 miles in 21 years. That's barely a long weekend per year. Yet this isn't a neglected barn find gathering dust; the vendor tells us it's been stored in a temperature-controlled environment, and it's been maintained by Plans Performance, a marque specialist, with services carried out regardless of mileage. The cambelt and water pump were replaced at under 4,000 miles, and fresh Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres were fitted in 2021.
Finished in Laser Blue with a black leather interior, it presents in a condition that genuinely reflects its mileage. The paintwork carries a deep, consistent gloss, the leather seats show no bolster wear, and the engine bay and underside are remarkably clean. The recent MOT passed with no advisories, continuing a spotless history across all seven recorded tests.
Finding a VX220 Turbo with this mileage is rare enough. Finding one that's been properly cared for makes this something special. It spent over 15 years with its first keeper and has been in its current ownership since July 2021.If you've been waiting for a preserved example, this one is a must.
