Description

Built in 1970, this is one of just 71 factory-built DB6 MkII Vantage models produced. Equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox and the Vantage specification engine breathing through three Weber carburettors, it represents one of the ultimate developments of Aston Martin’s celebrated six-cylinder grand tourer. Producing around 325bhp in period, the Vantage offered a sharper, more responsive driving experience while retaining the effortless long-distance character that defines the DB6.
What truly distinguishes this example is the extraordinary programme of work it has recently undergone.
Entrusted to renowned Aston Martin specialists, the car has benefited from over £100,000 in labour, alongside over £70,000 in genuine parts and specialist components, in one of the most comprehensive mechanical restorations imaginable.
The engine was removed and completely rebuilt to the acclaimed RS Williams 4.7-litre specification, delivering increased torque and effortless performance while remaining entirely sympathetic to the original character of the car. Following assembly, the engine was run on a dynamometer, carefully broken in and power-tested before being reunited with the chassis.
The gearbox was professionally refurbished, while virtually every major mechanical system received attention. The front suspension was rebuilt, braking and clutch hydraulics renewed, the steering overhauled, cooling and lubrication systems upgraded, and a new fuel tank and fuel delivery system installed.
The work extended far beyond the drivetrain. The engine bay was refinished to an exceptional standard, the interior was removed, retrimmed and refitted, new chrome wire wheels were fitted with Avon CR6ZZ tyres, and a bespoke exhaust system was fabricated to complement the rebuilt engine. The result is a car that has benefited from 1,235 hours of specialist labour, with no area overlooked in the pursuit of creating one of the finest driving DB6s available today.
The restoration represents an extraordinary investment, reflecting both the depth of the work undertaken and the calibre of the specialists entrusted with it. More importantly, it gives the next custodian the confidence that the significant mechanical work these cars inevitably require has already been completed to an exceptional standard.
Factory DB6 MkII Vantage cars are seldom offered for sale, and examples that have received this level of recent investment are rarer still. Combining one of Aston Martin’s finest six-cylinder specifications with a meticulously executed mechanical restoration, this is a DB6 built not only to admire, but to be driven and enjoyed for years to come.
As ever, we have a full digital file available on request, including additional images, walkaround videos, and service history scans. The car is available to view by appointment at our West London showroom.
