1995 Rocketeer Mazda MX-5/Eunos/Miata NA

The MX-5 Rocketeer is the brainchild of Bruce Southey, an ex-McLaren automotive engineer who had the bright idea of adding the AJ30 V6 engine from a Jaguar S-type to the humble Mazda MX-5. The conversion benefits from a beautiful carbon intake system, motorsport MBE engine management system, custom loom, paddle clutch and bellhousing adapter mating it to the original MX-5 gearbox and powerplant frame, and is reputed to equip the donor car with 280bhp. Such is the quality of the conversion it almost looks factory.

You might think a 3.0 engine would add weight, due to it’s all aluminium construction the AJ30 is actually slightly lighter than the iron-block 1.8 it replaces.

This particular vehicle is based on an imported Eunos G-Ltd, which the previous owner acquired in 2018 and then set upon a six year documented restoration and conversion. This included completely stripping the drivetrain, replacing the sills, rust proofing the entire undersite with Bilt Hamber products culminating with a respray in rare Mica Blue in 2025.

Along the way it had a plethora of new parts - suspension and brakes were fully rebuilt and all running gear refreshed. It really does present as a nearly new vehicle - very impressive considering it is over 30 years old!

Subtle OEM-plus upgrades have been made along the way - MeisterR ZetaCRD coilovers, TR Lane roll over bar, chassis stiffening, DaveFab parts such as the radiator finishing panel and rear jacking bar. The audio system has been upgraded to a Sony Car Play unit Focal speakers and an amplifier in the boot. The doorcards have been tastefully refinished and feature custom printed housings for the separate Focal tweeter units.

Externally Rota RB wheels with Yokohama AD08-R tyres and an RS style front splitter finish off the OEM plus look.

Very recently the electrical system has been upgraded with a larger battery and renewed engine earths. Suspension geo and ride height set up for fast road.

The car has had a full inspection by Rocketeer themselves which it passed with flying colours. MOT until March 2027. Private plate pictured available separately.

This is a turnkey restomod ready for summer fun, all for a purchase price equivalent to what you’d pay Rocketeer themselves to fit the engine kit to a donor car you’d have to supply.
