The Ferrari 360 GTC
It ranks among Ferrari’s most successful GT racing cars of the early 2000s and was developed specifically for international GT racing under the FIA N-GT regulations. Based on the Ferrari 360 Modena, the result was an uncompromising competition car that went on to secure numerous victories and championship titles in national and international racing series. The 360 GTC was developed by Ferrari in collaboration with Michelotto. Unlike the standard 360 Modena, the GTC was designed from the ground up for racing. At the heart of the car was the Ferrari F131 V8 engine, mounted longitudinally in front of the rear axle, with a 90-degree cylinder angle and a displacement of 3,586 cm³. Despite the FIA air-flow restrictors, the engine produced 445 PS at 8,750 revolutions per minute and delivered a maximum torque of 410 Nm at 6,500 revolutions. The engine featured aluminium cylinder heads and block, titanium connecting rods, a forged steel crankshaft and dry-sump lubrication. Power was transmitted via a sequential six-speed racing gearbox with a limited-slip differential and a hydraulically operated three-plate clutch.
For use on the racetrack, the Ferrari 360 GTC was fitted with a completely revised chassis and aerodynamic configuration. The car featured an aluminium monocoque structure with an FIA-compliant roll cage, double wishbones on both the front and rear axles, adjustable shock absorbers and adjustable anti-roll bars. The bodywork consisted of a combination of aluminium and composite materials, complemented by Lexan side and rear windows to further reduce weight. An adjustable front splitter, a large rear wing and a rear diffuser provided the necessary downforce at high speeds. The braking system comprised generously sized Brembo steel brake discs with six-piston calipers on the front axle and four-piston calipers at the rear. Specially developed Pirelli racing tyres were fitted to lightweight 18-inch BBS monoblock rims. Despite extensive safety technology and its robust racing design, the Ferrari weighed in at just 1,100 kilograms. With a length of 4,557 mm and a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, it combined high agility with excellent high-speed stability.
The Ferrari 360 GTC quickly established itself as one of the most competitive cars in its class. Numerous private teams successfully fielded the car in the FIA GT Championship, in endurance races and in national GT championships. Today, the 360 GTC is regarded as one of the last classic Ferrari GT racing cars before the advent of modern electronic driving aids, and it embodies the combination of traditional racing technology, low weight and a high-revving naturally aspirated engine in a particularly impressive way.
About the vehicle on offer here
Chassis 2060 was delivered by Ferrari Corse Clienti in March 2004 and immediately began its racing career in international GT racing. In its very first season, the car competed in the Italian GT Championship, where it secured several podium finishes. Competing at historic circuits such as Imola, Monza and Mugello, the Ferrari quickly established itself as one of the most competitive cars in its class. Drivers such as Loris Kessel and Andrea Chiesa played a key role in the car’s early racing history. In 2005, Chassis 2060 was taken over by Scuderia Playteam and painted in the team’s distinctive blue and white colours. This was followed by the most successful phase in the car’s history. Under the management of Playteam and with drivers such as Le Mans winner Alessandro Pier Guidi, Toni Vilander and Giambattista Giannoccaro, the Ferrari won both the Italian GT Championship and the Spanish GT Championship in the 2005 season. Victories at Jarama, Valencia, Estoril, Jerez and Barcelona made Chassis 2060 one of the most successful Ferrari 360 GTCs of all time. The double championship win in two top national series remains an extraordinary achievement in the model’s history to this day.
In early 2006, Playteam entered the car in the historic 1000 Milhas Brasileiras at Interlagos. With Pier Guidi, Giannoccaro and Vilander at the wheel, chassis 2060 won its class by several laps and finished fourth overall against significantly more powerful cars in other classes. The Ferrari remained active on the international stage throughout the 2006 season as well, securing further podium finishes. Following the end of its professional racing career, the car found its way into the hands of a long-term collector. The car’s significance was further underlined by its Ferrari Classiche certification and an exhibition at the Museo Ferrari in Maranello.
In 2017, chassis 2060 underwent a comprehensive technical overhaul at Michelotto Automobili. The documented work involved extensive mechanical overhauls and was carried out with the aim of maintaining the vehicle to the highest standards, both technically and historically. After five years in the hands of a Dutch collector, the car came into the possession of Mechatronik in 2021, where it has been part of the private collection ever since and is now once again up for sale. Today, Chassis 2060 presents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a Ferrari 360 GTC with a documented racing history, two championship titles, a record of international competition and racing successes, and Ferrari Classiche certification. The combination of racing successes, a fully documented history and long-term care by a collector makes this car one of the most significant and sought-after Ferrari 360 GTCs in the world.
