2021 Ferrari

Completed through Ferrari’s Tailor Made program, this 812 Superfast draws its inspiration from one of the very first cars bodied by Pinin Farina. Serial number 0146E(0346M) was the last of the second series 166 MMs to be completed. The new-for-1953 version offered privateers a means to compete in the two-litre sports car class with the engine heavily upgraded over the earlier cars to sport 6-port cylinder and triple, quad-choke downdraught Weber 36 IF/4C carburettors.

The very special 166 had been ordered new as this 812 presents today. Medium dark blue with light silver roof. Inside the car saw dark blue pleated leather, with a pared back interior. Whilst a handful of 166s had been built with comfort in mind, 0346M’s first outing had been the ADAC 1000km Nurburgring.

Working closely with the Tailor Made department, this example draws great inspiration from this wonderful 50s sports racer.

This Superfast is finished in bespoke Blu MV166MM-B, unusually with its roof in Argento MV166-A at split that follows the base of the windows upwards towards the tail. Both shades of particular note, as all painted blue surfaces are shared with the body, and all painted silver surfaces, shared with the roof. The exterior sees further details and granular decisions; the absence of Scuderia shields elongate the car in profile. The forged wheels are ball polished reminiscent of the chrome wire wheels on the inspiring 166. The centre caps are finished in Argento MV166-A, with a chrome cavallino. Chrome extends to the exhaust tips.

The interior sees generous and diligent care with regard to the colours of the 166. The body of the seats are wrapped in Blu Sterling, with the pleated seat centres, door cards, transmission tunnel and lower dash emulating the satin paint of the 166 interior with Connolly Grigia 3244 hide. The interior is void of any carbon fibre trim, with the dashboard inserts painted as per the roof, in Argento MV166-A. Further interior parts are painted too, the steering wheel, F1 shift paddles, door inserts, airvents, passenger footrest and even the rear view mirror. The central bridge is finished in wood, much like the gear knob of the 166, by esteemed componentry manufacturer Morel Italia.
