Few motor cars evoke the romance of open-air grand touring quite like the Jaguar E-Type Series 3 Roadster. Combining the effortless torque and unmistakable soundtrack of Jaguar's legendary V12 with the involvement of the increasingly rare manual gearbox, this beautifully presented example represents everything that made the final E-Type such an exceptional driver's car.
Finished exactly as it left the factory in its wonderfully period combination of Primrose Yellow with Black leather, this matching-colour example is accompanied by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, confirming manufacture on 19 June 1972, original right-hand-drive specification, manual transmission and dispatch through Henlys, Manchester to Colmore Depot, Manchester.
Perhaps most significantly, this E-Type underwent a comprehensive bare-metal restoration during the early 1990s by the highly respected specialists who would later evolve into the company now known worldwide as Eagle E-Types. Even in their formative years, their craftsmanship was recognised as being amongst the very best in the industry, and the quality of the restoration is evident throughout. Photographic records document the car stripped to its bare monocoque before meticulous rebuilding, with the body refinished to an exceptional standard in its original Primrose Yellow.
Importantly, the car has been used only sparingly since that restoration, allowing it to retain the integrity and freshness of the work undertaken. The panel fit, presentation and overall condition reflect careful ownership and sympathetic use rather than repeated refurbishment.
Mechanically, the car is exactly what enthusiasts seek: a 5.3-litre V12 paired with the desirable four-speed manual gearbox, delivering turbine-like smoothness, effortless torque and one of the finest exhaust notes of any production Jaguar. Freshly serviced and prepared, it is ready to be driven and enjoyed immediately.
Completing the presentation is a brand-new set of MWS chrome wire wheels, perfectly complementing the elegant lines of the Series 3 Roadster while enhancing both appearance and drivability.
Today, this is a beautifully restored, highly desirable and wonderfully usable E-Type—one equally at home on European grand touring events, concours lawns or simply enjoyed on a summer's evening. Combining outstanding provenance, exceptional restoration history and one of Jaguar's most iconic colour combinations, it represents a superb opportunity to acquire one of the marque's finest grand tourers.
Model History
Introduced in 1971, the Jaguar E-Type Series 3 represented the ultimate evolution of Sir William Lyons' masterpiece. While retaining Malcolm Sayer's timeless design, Jaguar refined the E-Type into a more capable and luxurious grand touring car, perfectly suited to the long-distance motoring expected by its increasingly international clientele.
At its heart was Jaguar's magnificent 5.3-litre all-alloy V12, an engineering masterpiece developed from the marque's successful competition programme. Producing around 272 bhp with remarkable smoothness and flexibility, the V12 transformed the E-Type into one of the fastest production cars of its era, capable of effortless high-speed cruising and near-silent refinement.
The Series 3 featured a wider front grille for improved cooling, subtly flared wheel arches, uprated brakes and power steering as standard, making it significantly easier to drive than its predecessors while losing none of the E-Type's unmistakable character. The Roadster remained a true two-seater, preserving the purity of the original concept while offering exceptional comfort for continental touring.
Today, the Series 3 has firmly established itself as one of the most usable and rewarding E-Types to own. The effortless performance of the V12, combined with improved refinement and reliability, makes it a favourite among enthusiasts who enjoy driving their cars as intended. Manual gearbox examples are particularly sought after, offering a level of driver engagement that perfectly complements the V12's abundant torque.
More than fifty years after production, the Series 3 Roadster remains one of Britain's definitive sports cars—beautiful, charismatic and capable of covering great distances with an ease that few classics can match. Well-restored examples with documented provenance, desirable original colour combinations and manual transmission are increasingly recognised as some of the finest grand touring Jaguars ever built.
