The Porsche 911 (997.2) Speedster

It ranks among the most exclusive and sought-after special editions in modern Porsche history. Unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, it continued the long tradition of the legendary Speedster models, whose origins date back to the Porsche 356 Speedster of the 1950s. With its striking twin air intakes behind the seats, flatter windscreen and characteristic fabric soft top, the 997 Speedster combined timeless design with the technology of the 911 Carrera GTS. Production was limited to just 356 units, a tribute to the Porsche 356 Speedster, which laid the foundations for this model series. Every 997 Speedster was crafted almost entirely by hand and featured numerous exclusive details. Particularly striking were the widened body of the Carrera 4, the special front apron with black trim, the unique twin air intakes on the soft-top storage lid, and the manually operated soft top, which emphasised the car’s purist character. Exclusive Fuchs 19-inch Sport Classic wheels, black-rimmed headlights and numerous design elements finished in black gave the Speedster a distinctive and sporty appearance.

The 997 Speedster was powered by the GTS’s 3.8-litre six-cylinder boxer engine. With direct injection, 408 PS and a maximum torque of 420 Nm, the open-top sports car, paired with the seven-speed PDK, accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds and reached a top speed of 305 km/h. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), the sports exhaust system and the mechanical limited-slip differential ensured a particularly precise and dynamic driving experience. Despite its exclusive nature, the Speedster thus remained a fully-fledged high-performance sports car with uncompromising driving performance. The interior was also specially tailored to this special edition model. Black smooth leather, numerous handcrafted details, sports seats and bespoke Speedster emblems emphasised the vehicle’s limited-edition status. According to reports, of the 356 units produced, 204 were in Purblau, 121 in Carrara White and 31 in PTS Individual colours, of which only 12 were in black. Today, the Porsche 911 Speedster from the 997 series is regarded as one of the most sought-after limited-edition special models of the 911 range. Its low production run, unique design and the combination of classic Speedster tradition and modern Porsche technology make it an exceptional collector’s car and one of the most exclusive open-top 911s of its time.

Number 239 of the 356 examples built was one of only 12 produced in the PTS colour L041 Black and was first delivered by Porsche Denmark in July 2011. The first owner kept the car for four years before selling it in 2015 to the second owner, who is based in Stuttgart. This owner is the last registered previous owner of the car. Despite the low mileage of just 3,700 km, two servicing appointments have been carried out at Porsche over the years. In addition to the special colour, number 239 features the highly sought-after SportDesign steering wheel. The combination of an already rare model, a very rare configuration and low mileage makes this 997 Speedster one of the most sought-after Porsches on the collectors’ market.
