Overview
Ushering in a new epoch for Porsche's venerable and much loved 911, the Benjamin Dimson-designed 964 was launched in 1989. Although sympathetic to the overall design language of Porsche's flagship sports car, the new 911 brought with it some serious updates, not least of which was its brand spanking 247bhp, 3.6-litre M64 flat-six engine. All-wheel drive and a trick Tiptronic automatic gearbox also joined the party, along with coil sprung suspension, power steering and ABS, and the results speak for themselves, with most of the 964 being completely new.
That timeless silhouette remains, however, and the 964 is a proper 911. Compact, capable and with a robustness that inspires confidence the 964 still feels potent today and as with many 911s there's a variant to satisfy most discerning fans. Fancy a turbo with a whale tail? No problem? A lightweight, track-focussed RS? Sure thing. Hankering after four-wheel drive, a Targa roof and a manual gearbox? You're covered. Or how about a rear-wheel drive drop-top Tiptronic like this particularly lovely Carrera 2 cabriolet?
Added to the 964 line-up in 1990, the Carrera 2 carries the rewards of a rear wheel drive platform and has a sense of urgency about it that still resonates today. Bridging the gap between the classic 911s and the more modern iterations the 964 Carrera 2 is an absolute delight to drive. Throw in the convertible roof for those perfect summer jaunts and it all starts to look very tempting indeed. Cherished and much loved by the current owner, who has toured Europe extensively in it, this Porsche 911 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet comes to market in wonderful condition throughout and is complete with excellent service history, mostly main dealer and specialist.
Recently looked after and serviced by independent Porsche specialists Loe Bank Motors of Bury, this car has been in long term ownership for 15 years and is reportedly trouble-free, always garaged, regularly valeted and driving perfectly. Now you could use it as a base for a Singer conversion, but we think it’s rather lovely as it is.
