Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the BRDC Classic 2026 - Collectors' Cars on Saturday the 25th of July, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN.

Launched in 2000, the E46 M3 continued the evolution of the original E30 M3 from the 1980s. While the E30 had been developed primarily to dominate the European Touring Car Championship, the E36 evolved into a more refined and capable grand tourer. The E46 marked a return to the muscular wide-body styling of the original, with flared wheel arches, a chassis developed by BMW M Division and the superb high-revving S54 straight-six engine. The result was one of the finest driver's cars of its generation.

The combination of rear-wheel drive, near-perfect weight distribution, communicative steering and the free-revving S54 gave the E46 M3 a driving character that has become increasingly difficult to replicate in the turbocharged era. Equally at home on the road or circuit, it struck a remarkable balance between everyday usability and genuine performance. Today the E46 M3 enjoys cult status among BMW enthusiasts, with well maintained, manual gearbox, UK-supplied examples becoming increasingly sought after as one of the defining analogue performance cars of the early 21st century.

Offered here is a late 2005 BMW E46 M3 with the desirable six-speed manual gearbox. Originally finished in Carbon Black, it is now professionally wrapped in an eye-catching Warsteiner BMW Motorsport livery. This example has been transformed into a highly capable track car, with the initial conversion undertaken by the highly regarded Simpson Motorsport, specialists with years of experience preparing and running BMW Motorsport race and track cars. Starting with a solid, UK-supplied, HPI-clear E46 M3 with an excellent maintenance record, Simpson Motorsport stripped the interior before fitting a Custom Cages Clubman six-point roll cage, bespoke door cards, Sparco competition seats and steering wheel. A Geoff Steel carbon fibre roof was expertly installed, complemented by Turner Motorsport top mounts, a wheel stud conversion, Interax CSL coil-over suspension, AP Racing brakes with floating discs front and rear, braided brake lines and a lightweight sports exhaust system.

More recently, the M3 has benefitted from a full geometry set-up together with the desirable ARP bottom-end upgrade, new rod bearings, clutch, flywheel, starter motor, braided VANOS oil lines (completed by Everything M3s), exhaust manifold update and a correctly mapped CSL carbon airbox conversion, with expenditure totalling approximately £6,000.

The car has an excellent maintenance record from new and most recently benefitted from an Inspection II service, valve clearance adjustment and fresh MOT in June 2026. It is accompanied by a comprehensive history file containing invoices supporting the extensive upgrades, images that document the Simpson Motorsport conversion together with maintenance records dating back to new.

In summary, this represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a road-registered E46 M3 that has been thoughtfully developed into a highly capable track machine while retaining the flexibility for fast road driving, track days or competition use. Freshly serviced, properly sorted and offered ready to enjoy.
