1972 LOTUS ELAN

A genuine Type 45 drop head coupe that, amazingly, has had just one owner from new. Presented in its’ original colour combination of Lotus Yellow over Cirrus White, LXE 727K was first registered in March 1972 and has, over the years, benefitted from huge levels of attention, often by marque-recognised specialists.

Accompanying the vehicle is a number of service invoices, the oldest of which is a hand-written document by Cambridge based Elan guru Peter Day. Dated April 1979, work undertaken at that time included a replacement chassis, suspension parts, exhaust parts and much more, with the final invoice totalling £1390 (equivalent to £7690 now).

A full twenty-seven years later, in April 2006, LXE 727K was again entrusted to Peter Day for major work. This was to include another chassis, this time a galvanised Lotus component, a full engine build, a cooling system and exhaust system renewal and much more. The invoice on file shows a total expenditure of £10300 (over £18,300 in today’s money).

Used very sparingly in the past twenty years, recent major work has included a full respray in 2009, a replacement hood in 2011 and a new dashboard in 2012. Latterly, servicing has been in the care of another hugely well-respected Elan specialist, Gerald Turner in Newmarket, who has ensured that the vehicle has always been kept in the same great condition. Last attended to in August 2024, just 180 miles have been covered since.

Accompanying the vehicle is the portfolio of invoices and a nice selection of previous MOT certificates. Additionally, the jack, handle and hammer are still present. The aforementioned soft top remains in an ‘as new’ condition and is accompanied by a full-length tonneau cover.

I have undertaken an HPI check that shows no adverse information and, indeed, confirms the current ownership of over fifty-four years. A copy is on file for the benefit of the next owner.
