Description

Here at Quick and Big we are absolutely delighted to advertise for private sale on behalf of our owners, fresh from his collection, the recently restored, Porsche 928 GTS, presented in mega rare Wimbledon Green Metallic (only 4, RHD examples were manufactured). Its my own personal car, and has been a 1990’s labour of love. Sadly my collection has outgrown my storage space, as such its regrettably for sale. Its has a fascinating history file, including invoices for its recent £30k plus restoration.
Porsches V8, GT car’s values have spent too long being over shadowed by its air cooled sibling, I’m pleased to say the V8 bruisers are starting to be appreciated in their own right, and values are climbing. As a petrol head, it’s a dream car for me, and it’s been a pleasure to have owned one, perhaps that’s why I’ve tipped so much money into it!
The Porsche 928 was launched in 1977 Geneva Motor Show, the 2+2 coupe, going through a number of iterations in its nearly 20 year production run. In 1980 the “S” arrived, followed in 1986 by the S4, the end of the line range topper, the “wide bodied” GTS (as seen here) followed in 1992. Over the near two decades, engines, power, speed, and price all increased significantly, 4.5l – 5.4l, 237bhp – 345bhp, 140 – 170mph, £21,827 - £72,000 (making a GTS around £187k in today’s money).
There are many excellent buyers guides online, Google the Piston Heads guide, its a good read.
Many of us will remember the excellent, Top Gear Patagonia V8 Special, where Jeremy Clarkson drove a 928GT, in my view one of the best specials (back in the day, I was also lucky enough to have a Esprit V8 (James Mays V8 choice) as a daily driver).
The GTS was hugely expensive, and hugely capable sports car, it only sold on modest numbers, a total of 2904 GTS’s were sold worldwide between 1992 and 1995. Of that only 195 came to the UK, according to “How Many Left” there are 104 left now, only 20 of those are from 1993. So our example is a rare car, and that’s before we talk about its recent restoration, condition and its mega rare colour.
Presented in its original Wimbledon Green Metallic (L231), it could well be the only right hand drive Wimbledon Green Metallic example in the UK / Europe.
Less than 1% of owners chose this rare colour. Only 26, 928 GTS’s were ever made worldwide in Wimbledon Metallic Green. The majority of these were made in 1993 (the colour was subsequently dropped) and only 4 of them where in right hand drive. None of these came to the the UK or European markets, they were for the Japanese (1), Australian (1), South African (2) markets.
Our lovely example is one of the South African examples, which was originally registered on 1/2/1993 in Singapore. We believe it was bought back to the UK by its English business man owner, when he returned to the UK a few years later in 1998.
The most famous original owner of a Wimbledon Green Metallic GTS was Baron Fritz “Huschke” von Hanstein, (the Racing Baron), renowned Porsche racing driver, team manager and later day marketing director, we understand his GTS was one of the 22 LHD examples produced and has been an exhibited in the Porsche Museum.
BIG 9286 (its private reg is available by separate negotiation, its valued at £2.5k), was first registered in the UK on the 18/3/1998, it has had 5 UK owners. Back in the day our GTS was used as Porsche intended, and a “continent crusher”, and was used for many long intercontinental road trips, over time its travelled 159,001 miles. In the last few years its benefitted from having over £30k spent on its recent restoration.
Crucially our 928’s maintenance history is fantastic, its accompanied by its original service book, with 18 stamps from Porsche Main Dealers and brand specialists as below:

Our rare GTS is accompanied by a fascinating history file of receipts for historical maintenance.
We have just spent (too much) well over a further £15k, on restoring the 928 GTS including, repaint in original Wimbledon Metallic Green by prize winning classic car specialists, Bushells Restoration’s, including replacement seals / rubbers etc where required, wheel refurb in Porsche Exclusive Wimbledon Metallic Green, new tyres, load cover, etc. We have just also had all its electrical functions checked and made good by marque specialists Goss Hall Werks.
Our modern classic 928 GTS is beautifully presented, its Wimbledon Metallic Green paint work is stunning, and is complimented by Classic Grey (MX) interior, with optional ruffled leather and sliding sunroof. It also benefits from some Porsche Exclusive extras, including body coloured wheels and “rootwood” interior trim.
A cars paper work can tell you much about its previous owners enthusiasm for it. Along side the comprehensive history / receipts, our super rare GTS is accompanied by numerous MOT’s. The most recent MOT does not expire 28/10/2026, I will of course have a fresh MOT put on the GTS for its lucky new custodian.
Our 928 GTS, comes with its original Porsche document wallet, a 928 S4 owners manual, original service book, original dealer brochures, technical specifications booklet, Porsche Exclusive extras dealer book, 928 GTS reference book, space saver spare wheel / mega rare tyre pump, with even rarer plastic gloves, new load cover, jack, wheel brace and complete tool kit, and 2 ignition and interior keys.
Our Wimbledon Green Metallic 928 GTS has no finance outstanding and has no records of accident history. A full HPI report will be available to potential purchasers.
Many thanks for wading through our lengthy description, we believe it’s better to describe our cars fully. It is not in our interest to waste your time or ours with inaccurate descriptions. It does of course have the odd age related imperfection (which used car doesn’t), but for its age and mileage it really is excellent.
Our Wimbledon Metallic Green. 928 GTS really does tick all the Quick and Big boxes, being mega rare, quick, beautifully presented, well maintained at huge cost, rare, appreciating in value, ready to show and perfect for a enthusiasts collection. .
