The Karmann Ghia was a true exercise in automotive synergy, involving Volkswagen, Carrozzeria Ghia and coachbuilder Karmann

The 1960 model year was a pivotal transition period for the Type 14, benefiting from several major styling and performance updates introduced right at the start of production

The 1960 model introduced an updated 1,192cc air-cooled boxer engine, boosting power output slightly to c36bhp

Completed in May 1960, this LHD Type 14 Coupe was specified in Paprika Red (code L452) with body-coloured interior features and Stone Beige upholstery. The exterior was complemented by a contrasting Charcoal roof section, chromed front and rear bumpers, and Deco strips along the flanks

It was ordered from new with options M355 ‘US Equipment’, M139 ‘Sealed beam headlamps and red rear lamp lenses’, and M951 ‘Ram protection’

Imported to the UK in 2019 and later registered with the DVLA in July 2021

In 2019, the car received a sympathetic ‘preservation’ restoration by leading marque specialist Stephen Nolan of Wolfsburg VW, attending to the body and chassis, but with the aim of retaining as much of the original paintwork as possible

Subsequently, various original and used parts were sourced via Californian Classics in the UK, including a dashboard top panel, exterior aluminium trims, a replacement sealed beam headlight unit, original bumper over-riders, and new rubber body and window seals

Supplied with certificate of authenticity, an original instruction manual, import documents from California to the UK, the V5C, and various parts invoices from the restoration
