Description
This Vehicle is a CAT D
Let's get that out the way to start with, I know what you are thinking, but do not be put off by this. Let me explain; The bodywork of this model is made entirely of carbon fiber, something reserved for the elite, the Vanquish, the 177 and I think the Valkyrie. The doors, wings, bonnet, boot lid, the bumpers, even the prop shaft is carbon, this is one of the things that makes this car so so special, however, it also makes it very expensive. As an example the bonnet badge will cost you over £700. (interesting fact, they are black on the Vanquish and DBS, something else that separates them from the rest)
I tracked down its history, this example was a company car for one of the execs at Aston Martin Lagonda. That's where it happened, a fairly miner accident, no other vehicles involved, however, several carbon components were damaged. The insurance company at the time decided it was too expensive for them to repair, not because the structure of the car was affected or that there were any safety concerns, purely for the cosmetic repair costs which is where the 'D' rating comes from.
The difference on this occasion is the car was already owned by Aston Martin Lagonda, they decided it was worth it, so it was repaired by them using only genuine parts which is how it kept the original manufacturer's warranty. (which was extended all the way through to 2022 when I chose not to renew). This car has been on the road without issue since 2015 and has covered over 40k since, so you can rest assured this is as good as any other one out there.
It's in wonderful condition, a real thing of beauty. The paint work is some of the nicest I have seen, this classic metallic grey suits the car so well. You will find it hard to find anyone that doesn’t appreciate the styling of this car, a timeless design. Sure, you could get a Ferrari or McLaren, they will probably be quicker too but nothing comes close to the class and sophistication that you get with an Aston Martin.
With a naturally aspirated 6.0 v12 Engine producing just over 560bhp you get a smooth delivery of power, no sudden increases of torque like you can get with Turbo or Supercharger, making it much more predictable and easier to control.
I have personally done over 25,000 miles in this car and loved every single one of them. Road trips include Scotland, Switzerland and Italy to name but a few. This is a GT after all, it soaks up the miles with ease and comfort, but also offers a very exciting drive with a unique sound that's tough to beat, especially when winding your way through the twisty mountain roads. Don’t even get me started on the tunnels. Being a convertible you are much more exposed to the wonderful soundtrack which you will never tire of.
The steering is positive, it just goes where you point it. It has a near perfect weight distribution of 51/49 and double wishbone suspension all round, something reserved for the very top end sports cars. This combined with a set of incredible Carbon Ceramic breaks and 20" Light Alloy wheels makes the handling (and stopping) an absolute dream. That being said, take it out of sport mode, the exhaust goes quiet and you just float along in effortless luxury and near silent comfort.
The moment you insert the key, (which in itself is a lovely piece of crystal glass) the Bang and Olufsen tweeters rise smoothly from the dash as the big v12 fires up and you get hit with a bark from the exhaust. Those cold starts are the best.
I mentioned the tweeters there, they make up part of the 13 speaker 1000w Bang and Olufsen system fitted to this car which I have to say, sounds fantastic with detailed yet punchy bass.
Quality extras on this one include;
- Bitter Chocolate quilted interior, quite rare and very nice
- The 177 style steering wheel which may look a bit odd to start with but is great to use
- Stitching in the headrests, just finishes it all off beautifully
- Reversing Camera
- Vodafone tracker system, requires subscription but gets you 24/7 cover, you will be contacted by phone if the car moves. You can also setup geofencing and speed alerts. Effectively you can get emailed if the car moves in our out of a specific area or if it goes above a certain speed. It also maps out your journeys which is nice. All configured via the mobile app.
- Rear seats finished in the same leather and stitching. Believe it or not that’s an optional extra, without it you just have a carpeted shelf arrangement.
- 2x Crystal Glass Keys (these are around £1000 each so don’t drop them)
- De-badged (no Vanquish badge on the boot, or v12 on the side, it just looks cleaner)
Service History with all genuine parts, it s due an oil and filter service now which will be completed at the point of sale.
