Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers at The Classic Sale at CarFest 2026 on Saturday the 29th of August - Sunday the 30th of August, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN. The price indicated is the lower auction estimate.
The Hereford series was introduced in 1950 to replace the boxier A70 Hampshire. It features an American-inspired, rounded "pontoon" styling heavily influenced by Austin's lead designer, Dick Burzi with custom coachwork by Carbodies of Coventry
This 1952 Austin A70 Hereford Convertible (officially marketed as the A70 Drophead Coupé) is an exceptionally rare survivor, believed to be one of a handful of examples still in existence
Well known within Austin enthusiast circles, the car is understood to have been painstakingly restored over a lengthy period, having reportedly been rebuilt from what was essentially a collection of parts into the striking example offered today.
Understood to have spent many years as a show car before being acquired by our vendor's late husband approximately 15 years ago, remaining in long-term family ownership ever since.
Having been carefully stored and largely dormant for the last few years, the car presents well and is reported to be running. Whilst running and driving, it will require an element of recommissioning before being returned to regular road use.
A rare opportunity to acquire one of the most elusive post-war Austin convertibles, combining exceptional rarity with an interesting known history and the potential to once again become a standout attraction at classic motoring events.
