1999 TVR GRIFFITH 500

Late Griffith 500s with a fully documented body-off chassis refurbishment are becoming increasingly difficult to find. This late 1999 example (first registered 31st December 1999) combines one of the model's most desirable colour combinations with an extensive history file, a comprehensive photographic record of its restoration and 49,744 miles from new.

I've owned the car since 2019 and have maintained it with the intention of keeping it long term, not preparing it for sale. The history reflects that approach. Rather than simply routine servicing, it documents continuous mechanical improvement and preventative maintenance carried out by recognised TVR specialists over many years.

The car is finished in Estoril Blue with a Magnolia leather interior, is MOT'd until 22 March 2027 and will receive a fresh service before handover to its new owner.

The most significant feature is the documented body-off chassis refurbishment carried out by TVR101. The body was removed, allowing the chassis to be stripped back, outriggers were replaced then the complete chassis hot zinc primed and powder coated before being rebuilt. The work is fully supported by invoices together with photographic records showing stages of the refurbishment.

Anyone familiar with Griffiths will appreciate both the cost involved and, more importantly, the confidence that comes from knowing the work has been carried out properly and documented.

Mechanically, the car has benefited from continual investment rather than simply routine maintenance. The history includes a rebuilt gearbox, Nitron suspension, TVR camshaft replacement, Tornado engine management calibration, Bosch injectors, larger 20AM airflow meter, silicone coolant hoses, upgraded PAS hoses, replacement alternator, high-output battery, upgraded alarm system and a long record of specialist servicing and preventative maintenance.

The engine bay has been kept clean and tidy without being artificially detailed and presents exactly as you would hope to find on a well-maintained Griffith.

Inside, the Magnolia leather interior remains a lovely place to spend time. The leather has the natural patina expected of a well-cared-for 26-year-old TVR, while the timber dashboard and cream-faced instruments retain the character that makes these cars so special.

This is an honest car and I want the description to reflect that.

The paintwork presents very well overall and still attracts compliments wherever it goes, but it is not concours. There are some age-related imperfections including small areas of paint micro-blistering (osmosis), stone chipping around the nose and a handful of localised paint chips. These have all been photographed individually so that prospective buyers know exactly what to expect before travelling to view the car. I'd much rather describe the car honestly than disappoint someone on arrival.

The history file is extensive and accompanies the car together with the photographic record of the body-off restoration. It tells the story of a Griffith that has been consistently maintained and improved throughout its life rather than cosmetically refreshed immediately before sale.

Finding a Griffith isn't difficult. Finding one with documented body-off chassis work, extensive specialist history and photographic evidence to support it is considerably less common.

This isn't a perfect concours car, nor is it presented as one. It is, however, an exceptionally well-documented, well-maintained and properly sorted Griffith that has had the important expenditure carried out and recorded.
