2017 PEUGEOT 2008

It's easy to become swamped by the number of small SUVs out there, but the Peugeot 2008 still manages to stand out from the crowd. The 2023 facelift freshened the styling and infotainment, while the good bits have been left well alone. It's related to the Vauxhall Mokka and Jeep Avenger yet is longer than both, making it the most practical member of the family. The 2008 is in a crowded market for small family cars, packed with some interesting rivals. Key competition comes from established names such as the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur. We'd also consider the spacious Skoda Kamiq and Volkswagen T-Cross.The interior's another high point, putting just about every other small SUV into shade with a really stylish design and superb build quality. Thanks to its interesting i-Cockpit design, with low-slung steering wheel and high-mounted instrument panel and a selection of interesting and high-quality trims interior trims, the 2008 manages to stand out for passengers as well as drivers.Headroom is okay in the 2008, but nothing exceptional when compared with rivals – we found an airier rear cabin in a Skoda Kamiq or Volkswagen T-Cross, for example – but the seat base is angled more aggressively so we had a bit more legroom. It's certainly more spacious than a Jeep Avenger and other smaller compact SUVs, but we couldn't stretch out like we could in the Kamiq. The Isofix child seat attachment points are also easy to access. As you'd expect from an SUV-shaped family car, there are lots of storage cubbies inside. We found decent door pockets, space under the front centre armrest and a couple of cupholders (they're two different sizes, but on manual cars bottles can get in the way when changing gear), and a clever area on the centre console.There's an open cubby at the bottom of the centre stack, with a lidded section above that which folds down to reveal a shelf with a wireless charging pad.
