Full history
The Porsche 911 (997.2) GT3 RS 4.0
It represents the pinnacle of the 997 series and, at the same time, the last manual-gearbox GT3 RS in history. As a true tribute to motorsport, it combines supreme driving dynamics with uncompromising lightweight construction, delivering a purist driving experience that few other cars can match. As such, it is now regarded as one of the most sought-after Porsches of all time. With production limited to just 600 units worldwide, the GT3 RS 4.0 occupies a special place in the history of the 911 and marks the end of an era, before Porsche turned to more digital technologies for the next generation. At the heart of the GT3 RS 4.0 is the racing-derived six-cylinder boxer engine with a displacement of 3,996 cm³. The naturally aspirated Mezger engine delivers 500 PS at 8,250 rpm and develops a maximum torque of 460 Nm. Power is transmitted exclusively via a six-speed manual gearbox to the rear axle, ensuring an unadulterated driving experience characterised by precision, direct feedback and a keen response to the throttle. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 310 km/h.
Compared with the 3.8, the 4.0 has undergone numerous technical enhancements. In addition to the increase in displacement, components from the RSR racing car have been incorporated, including the crankshaft, connecting rods and other internal engine components. At the same time, special aerodynamic elements such as canards at the front, an optimised front splitter and the striking rear wing provide additional downforce and further enhance driving stability at high speeds. When it comes to lightweight construction, too, the GT3 RS 4.0 uncompromisingly follows the philosophy of the Porsche Motorsport department. The bonnet and wings are made of carbon fibre, whilst the front side windows are made of lightweight plastic. A lithium-ion battery, the omission of unnecessary comfort features and numerous other weight-saving measures reduce the vehicle’s weight to just 1,360 kilograms. The adjustable chassis with Uniball bearings and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) underline the car’s uncompromising character. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is now regarded as one of the last unadulterated, analogue high-performance sports cars from Zuffenhausen. The combination of a naturally aspirated Mezger engine, a manual gearbox, consistent use of lightweight construction and a strictly limited production run makes it one of the most sought-after collector’s cars in Porsche’s history and, for many enthusiasts, the ultimate embodiment of the 911.
About the vehicle on offer here
This GT3 RS 4.0 left the Porsche factory in Carrera White with centre-lock wheels painted to match the body colour. The red accents on the exterior are continued in the interior, creating a harmonious link between the exterior and interior. Furthermore, this particular car features two particularly sought-after options: the folding carbon-fibre bucket seats and the front lift. Porsche delivered the car in this configuration to its first and to date only owner on 29 August 2011. The Switzerland-based collector treated the GT3 RS 4.0 with the utmost care throughout his ownership and drove it only on select occasions. Consequently, the mileage is correspondingly low, standing at just 2,520 km today. Despite this exceptionally low mileage, the vehicle’s maintenance was not neglected. During his many years of ownership, the owner took the GT3 RS 4.0 to Porsche twice for servicing. It was not until 2026 that Mechatronik finally purchased the car. The exceptionally low mileage and the careful care taken throughout the entire period of ownership are reflected in the vehicle’s current collector’s condition.
Number 052 of a total of 600 GT3 RS 4.0s ever built offers Porsche collectors and enthusiasts a rare opportunity. The combination of just one previous owner, a mileage of only 2,520 km, the attractive specification, and the coveted folding carbon-fibre bucket seats and front lift makes this car a particularly interesting example of this strictly limited series. In its very well-maintained collector’s condition, this GT3 RS 4.0 offers the rare opportunity to acquire, first-hand, an exceptionally low-mileage example of what is arguably one of the most sought-after 911s of modern times.
