Overview

The 997 took the 911 back to its most recognisable form, round headlights nodding to the 993 and a naturally aspirated flat-six slung out the back. It went on to become Porsche's best-selling 911, and the Carrera 2 sits right in the sweet spot, its 3.6-litre flat-six sending 325bhp to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual regarded as one of the toughest gearboxes Porsche ever built.

This 2006 example wears its individuality well. Finished in grey, it's been given the later Gen 2 front-end treatment, with slimmer LED-look daytime strips lending a more contemporary face, while a colour-matched fixed rear wing and a set of freshly refurbished 19-inch anthracite alloys give it a purposeful stance. It's covered a modest 65,455 miles and presents cleanly inside and out.

In current ownership since June 2024, it's had plenty of recent attention to keep it sharp, and the cabin's black leather sports seats and retrofitted Apple CarPlay touchscreen make it an easy car to jump into and enjoy.

Drive it and you get the trademark 997 experience, all communicative steering and a flat-six soundtrack that rewards every prod of the throttle, with genuine everyday usability into the bargain. It's a lovely looking example in fine fettle, ready to be used and enjoyed.
