The Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series

It ranks among the most exclusive and powerful high-performance sports cars of the Modern Classics era. Unveiled in 2008, the vehicle was developed at the AMG Performance Studio as the most radical variant of the R230 series and consistently carried forward the successful Black Series philosophy. Unlike the standard SL Roadster, the Black Series featured a fixed carbon-fiber roof, a completely redesigned body, and numerous motorsport components. This exclusive high-performance coupe was produced in a strictly limited run of just 350 units and quickly became one of Mercedes-AMG’s most sought-after collector’s cars shortly after production ended. The SL 65 AMG Black Series is powered by a hand-built 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine from the M275 series with a displacement of 5,980 ccm. It delivers 670 PS at 5,400 rpm and generates an electronically limited maximum torque of 1,000 Nm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 5-speed automatic transmission. This enables the Black Series to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 320 km/h.

The body of the Black Series has been extensively redesigned. Wider fenders, a completely redesigned front end, large air intakes, a fixed carbon-fiber roof, and a speed-sensitive rear wing not only give the vehicle its striking appearance but also improve aerodynamics and driving stability. Numerous body components are made of carbon fiber, ensuring that the vehicle is consistently designed for lightweight construction despite its large twelve-cylinder engine. The concept is complemented by a specially developed suspension, a wider track, and 19-inch forged wheels on the front axle and 20-inch wheels on the rear axle with extra-wide tires. The interior, too, is consistently aligned with the philosophy of the Black Series models. Carbon-fiber bucket seats, exposed carbon-fiber elements, high-quality leather, and a driver-oriented cockpit underscore its motorsports character. At the same time, the SL 65 AMG Black Series combines uncompromising performance with high-quality craftsmanship. Today, the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series is considered one of the most significant modern AMG classics. Its extremely limited production run, handcrafted V12 biturbo engine, elaborate carbon-fiber construction, and uncompromising design make it a milestone in AMG history and one of the most fascinating high-performance sports cars of its time.

About the vehicle on offer here

This example was completed by Mercedes-AMG in May 2009 in the elegant Diamond White Metallic paint color, paired with a rare red leather interior, and subsequently delivered to its first owner in Saudi Arabia. The SL 65 AMG Black Series remained in that region for just under a decade before the vehicle was eventually sold to Europe. There, the Black Series was registered. In 2023, the vehicle changed hands again and became part of a German company’s collection. However, it was not registered in Germany, so the existing vehicle documents were retained. During its subsequent time in Germany, the interior underwent special customization. The original leather seat center panels were replaced with a new material made from the tartan fabric historically characteristic of Mercedes. This was color-coordinated to match the existing red leather interior and thus blends harmoniously into the vehicle’s extraordinary configuration. Today, this SL 65 AMG Black Series boasts a modest mileage of 15,150 km. In particular, the extremely rare combination of Diamond White Metallic and a red interior gives this example a special character and clearly sets it apart from most other vehicles in the strictly limited production run. Combined with its low mileage and special configuration, this Black Series offers collectors and enthusiasts a unique opportunity to acquire one of the most exceptional examples of the strictly limited-edition SL 65 AMG Black Series.
