Description

Ordered by Maranello Sales on 10 December 1987, with the factory order placed on 13 March 1988, this exceptional Ferrari was completed on 26 September 1988 as a 1989 model-year example.
Transported to the UK by truck, it was one of only 130 officially imported examples and one of just 53 specified with anti-lock brakes. With approximately 99 of the original 130 cars currently recorded as taxed or SORN, it is estimated that only around 40 ABS-equipped GTBs may remain.
Maranello Sales delivered and first registered the car on 28 October 1988. As of 1 October that year, the list price was £44,999.50, excluding delivery, number plates and road tax. Desirable factory options included:
Air conditioning – £1,681.87
Anti-lock brakes – £1,557.30
Colour-coded rear aerofoil – £280.31
After passing through the hands of three further registered keepers, the car was purchased from Rardley on 2 August 2006 with just 5,708 recorded miles. Although never registered in the buyer’s name, he viewed and paid for the car before trailering it home that same day, starting the engine only to load it. As the owner of a garage, he subsequently displayed the Ferrari on the second floor of his showroom.
He later sold it to a close friend, who registered the car to his company on 31 May 2012. It then joined a small private collection that included a Ferrari 360 Modena, later joined by a 458 Italia, as well as several desirable Porsches.
We purchased the car on 25 August 2015 with 6,200 miles recorded. On 5 September 2015, at 6,254 miles, it was sold to a friend—a 57-year-old company director from Hampshire. During his ownership, the Ferrari was carefully stored in a Carcoon and used only sparingly. One notable outing was for an Autocar magazine photoshoot and accompanying article, published on 7 July 2021.
The car remains complete with its original factory handbook, wallet, service book and tool kit. It also benefits from a stainless-steel sports exhaust.
With its remarkably low documented mileage, desirable factory specification and fascinating provenance, this represents a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding example of an increasingly collectible Ferrari.
