EXTERIOR

This low mileage 1.9 GTI presents in superb condition with glossy paintwork and excellent panel fitment all round. A lovely original example that has never needed any major restorative work, it looks and feels fantastic – exactly as a 60k mile car should. None of the plastic trims or bumpers have faded and the lights are all clear and free from moisture ingress; we’re also pleased to see the correct amber front indicators still fitted. All the glass is original Peugeot and quite remarkably the Speedline alloy wheels still appear to wear their factory paint. The underside of the car has also been checked and it remains in very solid, original condition, pleasingly free from underseal.

INTERIOR

In line with the low mileage the seats are excellent with no wear or sagging issues to the original leather bolsters or cloth centre panels. The steering wheel feels great in-hand and there are no cracks or areas of sun damage to the dash or plastic trims. The headlining is immaculate, the original carpets are pretty much spotless, and the factory vacuum sunroof works just as it should with no leaks. The interiors of these cars do not always wear well but this one has certainly stood the test of time, which is further testament to careful ownership since new. A modern JVC head unit is currently fitted but no additional speakers have ever been installed and so the door cards and parcel shelf are perfect.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The 1.9-litre engine fires up first turn of the key, idles smoothly up to temperature, and pulls eagerly through the rev range. We’re fortunate to have sold lots of lovely 205 GTIs over the years but all agree that this is one of the best driving examples we’ve had, feeling quick, tight, and mechanically up to scratch. A full mechanical inspection has just been carried out, and for additional peace of mind we have also had the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, rear brake pads, and all tyres replaced at the current mileage – so she’s ready to be driven and enjoyed.

HISTORY FILE

The cracking 1.9 GTI was supplied new by McKinnon of Wallington in March 1989. It remained with its first owner until 2011 by which time the car had already been religiously serviced by the supplying Peugeot dealer no less than 34 times! Additional services and maintenance have been carried out since, however in recent years the car has spent most of its time tucked away in dry storage. This has not only helped to keep the mileage low but also to preserve its great original condition. Since arriving at 4 Star the 205 has had a full check over and cambelt change with new Michelin tyres fitted all round. In desirable non-PAS spec, it’s an absolute joy to drive and is an instant reminder why these little Peugeots are one of our favourite hot hatches of all time.
