1978 VOLKSWAGEN CAMPER

It’s time for my beloved Dougal to be enjoyed by a new owner. Owned for 15 ½ years with 8 former owners.

1978 VW Bay Window Devon Campervan in Tiaga Green & Pastel White.

2L Type 4 VEGE reconditioned engine with Single Weber Carburettor. This engine had done just 2000 miles when I purchased in February 2011. No receipts, unfortunately, as done by previous owner. Mileage was 12120. Runs sweet and has never let me down. 36,000 miles on clock.

A full nut & bolt restoration was carried out in 2016. Stripped, blast cleaned with various new panels. Front cab floor pan, all front panels, tubs etc. 2 new doors. Rear quarters and half of the nearside wheel arch, which unfortunately needs attention as it has some cracks. (See photos). All new seals. New windscreen, wiring loom, brake pipes etc. All running gear blast cleaned and painted. Front beam replaced from Cali import. New heat exchangers, brakes, carb, fuel lines, etc. Too much work to list. Receipts for all parts & work carried out. Receipts for over £42,000!

Gearbox fully stripped and refurbished.

Spare wheel but does not fit on van anymore. Replaced with stainless VW Badge. Stainless hubcaps. Wheels blast cleaned & powder coated.

TAX & MOT exempt. I have just had him MOT’d. (Expires 07/07/2027) Sailed through with only 1 advisory, (Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened)

New Vanwurks Deluxe Classic Beech interior, original vinyl flooring was kept, it does have a small patch of damage where I meticulously pulled it from the original plyboard. (See photos).

¾ Rock & Roll bed, overhead cupboard with table storage, Wardrobes, lighting shelf with 3 small storage cupboards. Slim cupboard with dual buddy seats.

Waeco CRX 50 fridge. 2 ring gas hob & sink with glass covers. Water tank with electric pump. Propex heater under rear seating, along with table leg.

Retrosound, Bluetooth stereo with in-car microphone.

Pop top replaced, bought from Proud to Pop, fitted ourselves. Not the best job but it works and doesn’t leak! See photos.
