Description
After 10 years of ownership, I have decided the time has come to sell my 911.
For those in the know, you will see it’s a very early 3.4 Carrera 2. This means it has a throttle cable (no fly by wire) but more importantly the dual row Intermediate Shaft (IMS) bearing. Also being a 3.4, it doesn’t have the bore scoring issues that are more common on the later 3.6 cars.
This is a 28 year old car, but please don’t confuse it with some of the 996’s that have had a hard life and have been modified or messed with. This car has been carefully maintained (17 service stamps and 5 brake fluid changes) and in my ownership has been driven with care. I have been particularly careful when started from cold, I have made sure it has had chance to warm through before driving off. Being a Tiptronic, the car will have been driven with less vigor than a manual and the chances of the engine being overrevved are next to impossible.
This car was supplied new in 1998 by Issac Agnew in Belfast to Mr. Ross Thompson the owner of Punjana Tea, it then passed to a Mr. Robert Dunlop in Northern Ireland before making its way to England at around 2012. Since arriving in England the car has had 3 owners (which includes me).
The car still retains the original Issac Agnew sticker in the rear window, Issac Agnew NI tax disc holder, its NI registration number together with its 17-inch wheels fried egg headlamps and CD radio. The interior is in excellent condition and as it left the factory.
You will see from the images that the car has a great service history and, during my ownership, has wanted for nothing. The cars has had:
• Chain tensioners replaced – Cavendish Porsche 2021
• New water pump - 2023
• New coil packs -2023
• Engine and transmission oil change (with new filters of course)
• Stainless steel Miltek sports exhaust silencers (these are much lighter than the standard box’s and also sound much better) - 2023
Some interesting points to note about this car are:
• Specified without a sunroof (even though at the time a sunroof was included in the price)
• Special order paint – Polar Silver (it has slight blueish tint)
• Extended leather (leather dash & door trims)
• Ruched leather seats
• Heated seats
• 3 spoke leather steering wheel
For transparency, other points to note are:
• The air conditioning isn’t working it did work until about a year or so ago (suspect it might be the condensers)
• Wheels could do with a refurb (front right wheel has an annoying scuff)
• Right rear wing has a small area where the lacquer has lifted (this is a minor smart repair)
• There is a mileage discrepancy on the MOT history, this is because the original instrument pack failed. I have the old pack and can plug it in to show the mileage when swapped (the old ins pack will be supplied with the car).
In summary this is a lovely example of an early 996 which has been a pleasure to own. I have done various long-distance trips, and it has been an absolute pleasure to drive, being totally reliable, comfortable and returning over 30 mpg.
I am sure the next owner will enjoy the car as much as I have.
