1994 Porsche

The 993 is well known as the last of the air-cooled 911s, but it is the level of refinement that really sets it apart from the earlier cars. With its much-improved build quality, new Weissach rear subframe, six-speed manual gearbox and a series of detail improvements throughout, the 993 represented a significant step forward from the outgoing 964, sharpening the driving experience while making the car feel more mature and composed.

Available as a coupé, cabriolet and Targa, the latter with its distinctive glass sliding roof, the Tony Hatter-designed 993 also looked more modern than the car it replaced, yet still retained the unmistakable character and proportions of a 911.

Which brings us to this example.

Supplied new by AFN Porsche on 31 August 1994, this 993 Carrera Cabriolet is finished in the beautiful combination of Polar Silver with Metropole Blue interior, including optional sports seats, a matching electric hood and 17-inch Cup alloy wheels.

As one of the early series cars, it also features the shorter-ratio six-speed manual gearbox, helping to keep the flat-six engine responsive and eager when asked.

The service history shows Porsche main agent maintenance up to 32,400 miles, after which the car moved into much lighter use, covering a total of just 9,000 miles over the following 24 years, as supported by the annual MOT history. In 2025, the car came to us and we carried out an extensive refurbishment programme, with expenditure amounting to just shy of £12,000.

Our thoughts

This 993 Cabriolet is finished in a particularly attractive colour combination and presents in immaculate condition throughout.

Having recently benefitted from our refurbishment work, it now drives beautifully. The electric hood folds back easily for those warmer days and evenings, while the six-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive chassis and communicative steering deliver exactly the sort of classic 911 Carrera experience that makes the 993 so appealing.

Values of good 993s have strengthened noticeably as more enthusiasts recognise the model’s blend of air-cooled character, classic 911 looks and greater everyday sophistication. With low mileage, desirable specification and recent preparation by ourselves, this Cabriolet has a great deal going for it and is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
