2004 (54) HONDA CIVIC TYPE R EP3 - 104,000 MILES - COSMIC GREY PEARL

Completely standard. Near-continuous service history from 2005. Brand new clutch. Corrosion found, cut out and repaired, with the invoices and photographs to prove it.

READ THIS PART FIRST

This is a twenty-one-year-old EP3. It has had rust, and I dealt with it

properly rather than leaving it to become someone else's problem. A section

of the rear arch was cut out and welded in January 2026 and the underside

sealed. The car had an extensive respray in its original colour by a

professional bodyshop in October 2024. I have the bodyshop invoice and

photographs of the car at bare metal, in primer and in the booth.

If you want a twenty-year-old car with no history and a good story, this

isn't it. If you know what an EP3 is like underneath at this age, and you

would rather buy one where the weak points have been found and addressed on

paper, read on.

THE CAR

Model: Civic Type R (EP3), K20A2, 197bhp, six-speed manual

Registered: late 2004, 54 plate. PDI 14 December 2004, Brindley Honda

Colour: Cosmic Grey Pearl

Mileage: 107,000

Owners: 4

Air conditioning: factory fitted. This was an optional extra on EP3s and

most cars did not have it

Modifications: none. No performance, suspension or cosmetic changes.

Standard wheels, standard interior, standard exhaust - the centre section

was replaced in 2023 with a genuine Honda part

I bought the car in May 2021 at 87,448 miles and have covered around 20,000

miles since. It has been maintained throughout regardless of how little it

was used. Goodyear Eagle F1s all round with 4mm tread.

HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

The service book carries a near-continuous run of stamps from December 2005

through to early 2025, around seventeen entries. Honda main dealers for the

first decade (Brindley, Grays, Inchcape Romford, Brayley Enfield, Gates

Chelmsford), then marque specialists, with Midland Honda Services in

Birmingham covering my ownership. It is not a complete book from new - there

are gaps in the middle years - but it is a substantial and verifiable record

and I have loose invoices supporting most of it.

Documented work includes:

- Dec 2021 (90,374 miles), Midland Honda Services, 555 pounds. Full service,

spark plugs, valve clearance check and adjust, timing chain check, gearbox

oil, brake fluid, auxiliary belt.

- Knock sensor replaced. The December 2021 MOT passed with an engine

management light advisory. The sensor was replaced, the light cleared, no

recurrence since. It shows on the public MOT record, so I would rather

tell you than have you find it.

- Dec 2022 (94,127 miles), annual service, MOT, bulbs, wipers.

- July 2023 (95,000 miles), 550 pounds. Offside rear brake caliper, rear pads

and discs, genuine Honda centre exhaust section.

- Air conditioning serviced and regassed on several occasions, condenser

replaced.

- Clutch replaced January 2026 at 107,000, fitted by a Honda Cannock main dealer

technician privately. There is no invoice for this work and I am telling

you that upfront rather than letting you discover it. The technician is

contactable and happy to confirm what he did.

- Most recent service: Major service. January 2026, Honda Cannock Technician

- MOT: valid until January 2027. The December 2023 test shows as a

fail on the public record for headlamp aim only. Adjusted and passed three

days later.

BODYWORK, PAINT AND CORROSION IN FULL

January 2026 - rear arch repair. A corroded section of the rear arch was cut

out, a new section welded in, and the underside sealed. The arches have been

cleaned back and treated with underbody seal.

October 2024 - respray by Motorbodies, Digbeth, Birmingham. 1,600 pounds,

invoice on file, carried out. Original colour throughout. The

invoice itemises the panels: bonnet, both front wings, front bumper,

driver's door, driver's side rear quarter (blended), boot hinges, boot

spoiler and roof. This was not a whole-car respray and I am not going to

describe it as one. Tailgate and rear bumper were not included.

It was a properly executed job. Bumper, spoiler and door handles were

removed and sprayed off the car, and the shell was masked and shot in a

booth. I have photographs of every stage. The reason for the work was

accumulated stone chips and scratches over twenty years, not accident

damage. The car is HPI clear and has never been in a collision.

April 2023 - Krown rust protection, applied by the certified Black Country

centre. Their assessment recorded existing corrosion at 1.5 on their 0 to 3

scale. The treatment requires annual reapplication to stay in warranty and I

have not maintained it, so the transferable warranty has lapsed. The

treatment itself was carried out and the paperwork comes with the car.

WHAT ISN'T PERFECT

So there are no surprises on the driveway:

- Small hole worn through the driver's carpet

- Outer surface of the steering wheel has peeled with age

- No original owner's manual

- Minor bubbling of Drivers rear alloy wheel.

WHY I AM SELLING

A change in personal circumstances means I no longer have the time to use

the car as it deserves.

VIEWING, TEST DRIVING AND PAYMENT - PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING ME

I work full time and I am selling this myself. I would rather have

sensible conversations than thirty pointless ones, so:

- Viewings by appointment only. I cannot do short notice.

- I will want a phone conversation before I give out my address.

- Test drives require a photocard licence and your own valid insurance for

the vehicle, shown to me before you get in. No licence or no cover means

no drive, whatever the circumstances. I will come with you.

- Payment is by bank transfer only. No cash under any circumstances. Funds

must be cleared and showing in my account before the car, the keys or the

V5C go anywhere. Please arrange your transfer limit with your bank in

advance - this is the most common reason a handover falls apart on the day.

- The car will be sold with road tax cancelled, as tax no longer transfers.

You will need to tax it before driving it away.

- I will not deal with couriers, shipping agents, third parties collecting on

someone's behalf, deposits to hold the car unseen, part exchange, or anyone

asking my lowest price before they have looked at it.

PRICE

9,500 pounds. I have priced this where I think a documented, unmodified,

air-conditioned EP3 sits, and I am not in a hurry. Sensible offers will be

considered from people who have seen the car. I won't be entertaining offers

made before viewing.
