JUST ARRIVED Triumph Stag Background Built between November 1969 and June 1977 and styled styled by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the project was managed by Triumph's Chief Engineer Spen King, and was powered by a new in-house designed 3.0 Litre V8 Engine, better than average crash protection and chassis stiffness and the trademark ‘T-bar’ roll-over Hoop all adding to the Stag's handling and going very well indeed. The Triumph Stag was a luxury four-seater 'British' Grand-Tourer and at its launch in 1970, it had the legendary Mercedes-Benz SL in its sights, however this was, initially at least, a tad optimistic, as it was somewhat flawed when first launched, but the intervening decades have given enthusiasts and specialists plenty of time to wrinkle out its quirks, and a properly fettled Stag is now a decently quick, super-reliable and capable of wafting you and three of your friends to the South of France and back in genuine comfort. Buyers had few options to choose from on the MK11 version introduced in 1973, as electric windows, power-steering and power-assisted brakes, and a Soft Top were all standard, - with the only real decision to be made being whether to specify their new Stag with a four-speed Manual Gearbox with Overdrive or the three-speed Automatic Gearbox and an optional Hard Top. Only in production for eight years, during which time 25,939 rolled out of the factory of which 17,819 were home market RHD cars and 8,120 export models, the vast majority of which were LHD cars sent to North America, alongside a small number of RHD vehicles built for countries like Australia and South Africa. Of these, 13,054 were fitted with the Borg-Warner 3-Speed Automatic Gearbox and 12,885 had the 4-Speed Manual Gearbox with Overdrive. The Triumph Stag benefits from one of the highest survival rates of any mass-produced British classic car and it is estimated that roughly 46% of all original Stags survive today. It spawned a disproportionate number of enthusiasts, owners’ clubs, and film appearances, including a role in the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever. This makes the Triumph Stag a proper Bond car, surely? THIS CAR Built just before production ended on 24th June 1977, this car Registration No: UEK 82S - Chassis No: LD44507A and Engine No: LF044598HEA is a 'Matching Numbers' car and is one of the final batch of Mark 2's o roll off the production lines in Canley, Coventry and it was first registered on 11th November 1977 in Warrington, Cheshire. It is famously known as broadcaster Jamie Theakston's stolen Java Green 1977 Triumph Stag back in October 2023, and as a result of him having broadcast this on his Breakfast show, it was found fairly locally the following day and returned to him undamaged. They have had the car maintained meticulously by Triumph specialist 'Enginuity' in Acton, London, W3, and during their 5 years of ownership, the following works have been carried out: a complete engine rebuild with new modified head gaskets and timing chains etc, a High Torque Starter Motor, a Davies Craig high power electric radiator fan, new uprated Supergill multi-core Radiator, Electronic Ignition, fitted a Scorpion Tracker S5-VTS Thatcham approved Alarm system with Central Locking, a complete repaint of the car, a new bespoke Green Leather interior + a new Black Mohair Soft Top fitted and lots more including regular maintenance. There are invoices in the file from Enginuity totalling over £37,000 for the various works carried out since they purchased the car in 2021. The car is in beautiful condition throughout with unmarked Java Green body/paintwork - having just been repainted, a beautiful new Green leather interior and new black mohair Soft Top, and it drives beautifully with no known issues. It has now covered a believed genuine 60,623 Miles from new, but only 1,000 miles since the engine was fully rebuilt in October 2023 and it has been stored in their garage for much of the last 3 years. Since they purchased the Stag, he and his wife have toured Europe in the car, as well as a trip around the Scottish Highlands and competed in a number of classic car rallies. However, it has now come to the time to pass it onto another owner, as it now just not being driven.
