1972 FORD CAPRI

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2026 on Sunday the 15th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT.

Registered in July 1973, this 3000 GXL is understood to have spent more than 30 years laid up in a garage before being acquired by its current owner in March 2019, who subsequently embarked upon a full restoration

The Capri's remarkable story began when it was purchased by its previous owner's father as a present for his son after passing his driving test. Unfortunately, two significant engine problems within eight months resulted in the car being taken off the road and placed into storage, where it would remain for over three decades

Finished in its original shade of Copper Bronze following a bare-metal respray, complemented by a newly upholstered and carpeted interior

Powered by a fully rebuilt 3.0-litre (2,994cc) Essex V6, coupled to a rebuilt four-speed manual gearbox

The restoration was undertaken with the owner's stated intention of producing a properly usable Capri rather than a concours example. Subsequently displayed on the Capri Mk1 Owners Club stand, the Club's assessment was rather more complimentary, concluding simply: "We disagree"

Supplied with invoices detailing the work carried out, together with an extensive photographic record documenting the car before and throughout its restoration

With its unusual history, more than three decades in storage and subsequent comprehensive restoration by an established Capri enthusiast, EPV 959L represents a particularly appealing example of Ford's flagship 3-litre Mk1 Capri GXL.
