2004 VOLVO S60

2004 (54 plate facelift) Volvo S60 SE with manual gearbox. P2 era which is considered one of Volvo’s best platforms with a 2 litre turbo sought-after 5 cylinder engine. Lovely colour combination of silver with black leather.

Drives as it should, smooth, refined with no knocks or bangs. I’ve owned this car for 5 years and aimed to keep it looking and feeling as close to original as possible. Plenty of preventative maintenance and issues addressed when they arise, evidenced by the fact there's only been a single MOT advisory since 2022 (anti roll bar link, replaced on the day). Comes with thousands of pounds of invoices over the life of the car, including maintenance items listed further below during my ownership. It’s been used exactly as it should be – nearly exclusively for my weekly 100 mile round trip on A roads rather than short journeys. Performed flawlessly during a 750 mile around the Lake District in 2025, capable of almost 40mpg on a run.

Bodywork is in great shape, especially for age, with only a small handful of minor blemishes. It’s had a paint depth gauge check over it, I believe the metalwork is all original paint still. Happy to do this again for any prospective buyer while present.

Huge stack of receipts for work carried out, highlights as follows:

- PCV system replaced in 2022 – absolutely essential on these engines but frequently skipped

- Fuel pump, O2 sensor, MAF sensor (all Bosch) and injector clean 2022 to solve what transpired to be a low fuel pressure issue. Diagnostic invoices included.

- Genuine Volvo alarm siren module – to get rid of the infamous leaking unit and “alarm service required” warning

- 3 piece LUK clutch kit and DMF 2023. Gearbox reconditioned by J R Dain in Norwich while out due to some minor bearing wear noticed (I have the old bearing to show just how minor!). Less than 20k miles covered since this.

- Front suspension overhaul including lower arms, ball joints, drop links (all Meyle parts) 2023

- Steering rack reconditioned in 2023 while above was done – hadn’t failed, very much a “while we’re there” job

- 4 wheel alignment 2023 with printout

- Rear handbrake rebuild with shoes, springs and XC90 adjuster retrofit in 2024 (cable already replaced in 2021). Well documented that the standard setup is poorly designed, this allows adjustment across the axle to avoid imbalance related MOT failures

- Upper engine mount 2025

- Exhaust 2025

- Subframe bushes 2026

- Brake pressure sensors 2026 to fix “anti skid service required” message

- All discs (Mintex), pads (Allied Nipon) and brake callipers replaced at various points during my ownership

- Clutch position sensor to fix intermittent cruise control

- Headlights polished and PPF’d to keep them crystal clear

This really is one for the enthusiast and needs to be seen to be appreciated. Not interested in “best price” messages and similar. It’s one of 4 cars in the household and I’m in no rush for it to go. Only reason for sale is due to buying a unicorn example of another vehicle I’ve been watching for the best part of 18 months.
