Description
1999 Porsche 911 (996.1) Carrera 2 3.4 Manual Coupé
82,824 miles | Ocean Blue Metallic | Savannah Beige leather | 6-speed manual | Full service history | Owned since 2017 | Highly original | Over £8,900 spent during my ownership
Reluctantly offered for sale is my much-loved 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 2, which I have owned since 2017.
It’s an early 996.1 with the 3.4-litre flat-six, rear-wheel drive and six-speed manual gearbox, finished in the lovely and relatively unusual combination of Ocean Blue Metallic over Savannah Beige leather.
The car has covered 82,835 miles and has a full service history, with the service book stamped from new and a substantial history file documenting maintenance and work carried out over the years.
One of the things I particularly like about the car is how original it remains. It is still on its original Carrera wheels rather than the Turbo-style wheels fitted to many 996s, and I still have the original Porsche stereo. It’s a very original, early manual Carrera 2.
During almost nine years of ownership I have spent over £8,900 maintaining the car and sympathetically refreshing age-related components. It has never been treated as a car to run on the cheap; work has been carried out as required, including by respected Porsche specialist Parr earlier in my ownership, and subsequent Porsche specialists local to where we lived.
Maintenance and recent work
Significant work during my ownership includes:
• Major service including spark plugs and brake fluid
• Front lower arm bushes replaced
• Suspension geometry
• Inner steering arm replaced
• Both air-conditioning condensers replaced and system re-gassed
• Lower-temperature thermostat fitted
• Drive belt replaced
• Coolant radiator replaced
• Water pump, gasket, thermostat and auxiliary belt replaced in November 2024
• Exhaust silencer clamps and exhaust tips replaced
• Regular oil/filter servicing
• Brake fluid replacement
• Headlamps refurbished/polished
• Various other age-related components replaced as required
In July 2026 a further £1,500 was spent professionally refinishing the bonnet and front wings to rectify areas of age-related lacquer deterioration and bring the front of the car back up to a high standard.
Total documented expenditure during my ownership is over £8,900, with invoices and supporting history available.
The car sits on Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres all round. The rears have covered less than 3,000 miles and the fronts approximately 10,000 miles.
Condition
The car presents very well for its age both inside and out and, most importantly, drives extremely well.
Mechanically it feels strong and is a lovely example of what makes an early 3.4-litre 996 so enjoyable – relatively compact, light and communicative, with the naturally aspirated flat-six sounding great and pulling strong, particularly over 5000rpm, manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.
The Ocean Blue Metallic paintwork works particularly well with the Savannah Beige interior and, combined with the original Carrera wheels, gives the car a very classic early-996 appearance.
The interior is in good condition and retains its original character. The original stereo is also included with the car.
This is a 27-year-old 911 rather than a concours example, so there are some stone chips and minor age-related marks. I have deliberately tried to show the car honestly in the photographs rather than hide these.
History and ownership
The car has a full stamped service book from new together with a substantial collection of invoices and supporting documentation.
I have owned it since 2017 and know the car extremely well. It has had nine previous owners, but my almost nine years of ownership, extensive history and documented expenditure hopefully demonstrate how carefully it has been looked after during the best part of the last decade.
Two keys are present, including a replacement Porsche key/fob supplied during my ownership.
Inspection by a recognised Porsche specialist is very welcome at the buyer’s expense.
Reason for sale
This is a genuinely reluctant sale. I’ve owned the car since 2017 and it has been very much loved, but a major renovation of our family home has cost considerably more than originally planned, so unfortunately the time has come to let the Porsche go.
I’m hoping it goes to another enthusiast who appreciates the originality and character of an early manual Carrera 2 and will enjoy it as much as I have.

Serious enquiries are very welcome. I’m happy to discuss the car and its history in detail with prospective buyers and can provide further photographs or information as required.
