Description
BMW E36 | June 1995 | 1.6i Petrol | Manual | LHD | 112,000 miles | Montreal Blue Metallic | Grey Fabric Interior | Sunroof Delete
It is sadly time to part company with my son’s beloved BMW E36.
I originally built this car for my son, and the entire restoration is documented in detail, episode by episode, on my YouTube channel MY911. If you’re interested in the car, I’d strongly recommend watching the videos to see exactly what has gone into it.
This is a genuine, comprehensive restoration rather than a car that has simply been tidied up for sale. Thousands of pounds and a huge number of hours have gone into bringing this E36 back to an exceptionally high standard.
THE BODY & RUST
One of the biggest jobs was dealing properly with the rust.
All identified rust was cut out and professionally repaired and rewelded. The car is now rust-free.
The rear subframe was completely refurbished, and all of the bushes throughout the car have been replaced. This was a major undertaking and means the car not only looks right, but drives as an E36 should.
All cavities have also been thoroughly treated with Waxoyl as part of the restoration, providing additional protection against future corrosion.
The original Montreal Blue Metallic paintwork is in excellent condition, with a deep shine that looks remarkable for a 30-year-old car.
INTERIOR
The interior has received the same level of attention.
I completely rebuilt the seats using original BMW fabric sourced from BMW, rather than aftermarket replacement material.
I also spent a considerable amount of time sourcing the correct original trims, accessories and BMW radio, so the car is now fully complete and retains the character and specification of the original car.
The grey fabric interior is in excellent condition.
MECHANICAL
The engine and gearbox are tight and the car has covered 112,000 miles.
The engine has been comprehensively recommissioned, including a new water pump, spark plugs, all engine coolant hoses, genuine BMW radiator and expansion tank.
The car has also been fully serviced, and the air conditioning has been refurbished and is ice cold.
The gearbox was professionally rebuilt by the highly regarded Bexhill Gearboxes in Hastings, including:
• Sachs clutch kit
• New master cylinder
• New slave cylinder
This work alone cost over £2,500.
The suspension has also been comprehensively rebuilt, including all bushes, and the car is essentially stock apart from a tasteful Bilstein B4/M3-style lowering setup** and E90 alloy wheels. It drives exceptionally well.
I also designed and fabricated a bespoke aluminium sump guard, providing substantially greater protection than the original OEM item while remaining discreet and in keeping with the car.
Where possible, I have used genuine BMW or Lemförder parts.
RARE ORIGINAL BMW OPTIONAL EXTRAS
I also have a collection of rare original BMW optional equipment ready to be fitted to the car, including:
• Factory cruise control – particularly rare on an E36 1.6i
• Heated seats
• Front fog lights
• Original BMW E36 roof bars
• Center armrest in matching cloth
• Other period-correct BMW equipment
These are original BMW components, not aftermarket additions, and will be included with the car.
The next owner therefore has the opportunity to fit these and take the car even further, while retaining the period-correct OEM character.

The car has been garaged throughout its life, and I have contact with the original owner from new.
I have invested around £10,000 in parts and professional work alone excluding the many hours of labour. Every invoice has been retained and is organized in clear plastic folders.
I genuinely don't want to sell it, but my son has now moved abroad and, unfortunately, the car simply isn't being used. It deserves to be enjoyed by someone who appreciates what it is.
I would particularly love to see it go to a BMW/E36 enthusiast who will understand the amount of work that has gone into preserving and restoring it.

Many thanks for your interest.

Joël
