2013 LAND ROVER DEFENDER

Few vehicles can claim the heritage of the Land Rover Defender. Born from the original 1948 Land Rover, the enduring design remained remarkably faithful to its roots throughout 67 years of production, finally coming to an end on 29 January 2016.

By the time this 2013 example was built, the Defender had evolved considerably beneath its familiar silhouette. Coil-sprung suspension brought greater comfort and capability, while permanent four-wheel drive, with a two-speed transfer gearbox and lockable centre differential, provided the legendary off-road ability for which the marque had become synonymous. Inside, a more modern cabin accompanied a succession of increasingly sophisticated engines.

The final major update arrived in 2011, when the Defender received Land Rover's 2.2-litre ZSD-422 turbodiesel. Equipped with a diesel particulate filter and meeting Euro V emissions standards, it represented the final evolution of the traditional Defender's four-cylinder diesel powertrain.

Purchased new in 2013 by its former owner, this particularly appealing example has covered fewer than 10,000 miles from new. Such modest use is reflected in its presentation, with the Defender retaining the character and purposeful appearance for which these vehicles are so admired.

Finished in burgundy red with a contrasting white roof, the specification is enhanced by a snorkel, sun visor, seat riser, side step, tow bar, differential cover and top rear light. The vehicle is accompanied by its service book, owner's manual and wallet, a collection of historic MOT certificates and its V5C confirming its 1 former owner provenance.

As one of the last iterations of an unbroken design lineage stretching back to the first 80-inch Land Rover, low-mileage Defenders of this era are increasingly sought after. With exceptional mileage, single ownership and the desirable 2.2-litre engine, this example offers a particularly compelling opportunity to acquire a remarkably preserved modern classic and one of the last true traditional Land Rovers.
