1967 SUNBEAM

The Sunbeam Alpine has always offered something slightly different from its British sports car contemporaries. Handsome, comfortable and genuinely usable, it combines open-top motoring with a level of refinement that makes it just as happy covering longer distances as enjoying a Sunday morning drive.

This 1967 Sunbeam Alpine MkV is a particularly attractive example, having been subject to a high-quality restoration circa 2000 and carefully maintained in the years since.

The MkV was the final development of the Alpine, introduced in 1965 and powered by the Rootes Group's improved 1,725cc four-cylinder engine. With a five-bearing crankshaft and around 92bhp when new, it offered noticeably stronger and smoother performance than the earlier cars. This example is further equipped with the desirable manual gearbox with overdrive, making it particularly well suited to longer journeys.

Importantly, considerable mechanical attention has been lavished on the car in recent years. The engine received a comprehensive overhaul in 2024, followed in 2025 by a reconditioned overdrive gearbox and differential, together with a new set of tyres.

Having remained with the same owner for approximately 15 years, the Alpine has clearly benefited from long-term custodianship rather than simply being prepared for sale. It resided in Jersey from 2011, and has now be repatriated to the UK mainland.

The interior retains some of the features that give the later Alpine so much character, including its walnut veneer dashboard and wood-rimmed steering wheel, creating a wonderfully traditional British sports-car driving environment.

The car is equipped with a folding soft top and tonneau cover, giving the option of proper open-air motoring whenever the weather allows.

With its handsome styling, 1,725cc engine, overdrive gearbox and recent programme of significant mechanical work, this is a very appealing example of the final and arguably most developed version of the Sunbeam Alpine.
