EXTERIOR

Finished in popular Le Mans Blue metallic and presenting in excellent condition, this facelift M5 defies both its years and mileage. After a machine polish by our in-house detailer the paintwork has a lovely deep shine with little more than an expected dusting of stone chips to report. Unlike many E39s that have changed hands frequently over the years, this car has had only 2 long term owners since new. It was acquired by the current keeper 10 years ago, and the level of care and attention he has devoted to keeping it in tip-top shape is evident throughout. It’s arrow-straight along both sides, and even finer details such as the plastic rubbing strips are excellent all round. The car has never needed any major restoration work but in 2024 it was treated to a £7,500 refresh of the sills, rear quarter panels, and diff. All-original glass, clear xenon headlights, and 18-inch wheels in the correct shadow-chrome finish complete the look.

INTERIOR

The heated electric sports seats remain in particularly fine condition, including commonly worn areas such as the driver’s bolster, which in this case hints at only light use. Soft Nappa leather extends along the centre console to the gear knob which is pristine having been replaced with a new genuine item only a few thousand miles ago – the same is also true of the M door sill trims which even have their protective plastic coverings still attached. The multifunction steering wheel feels great in hand having been trimmed in anthracite Alcantara with the correct M stitching, but the original leather wheel is included with the sale should the new keeper wish to re-fit for a completely standard finish. Looking around the cabin there really are very few marks or signs of wear to report, including on the switchgear and delicate dash trims. Genuine BMW floor mats are still in place in the footwells, and up above, the headlining is immaculate.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The engine bay is also highly impressive and original with no signs of accident damage or previous poor repair. Reading through the accompanying paperwork it’s clear to see that the car has always been maintained to a very high standard, originally at BMW and then by a select few performance car specialists. The service book contains 14 stamps, the last being a major Inspection II at 88k miles. For the new keeper’s peace of mind, a fresh service will be completed upon a sale at the asking price. Other notable mechanical work in recent years includes (but is not limited to) a front brake caliper refurb with new discs and pads, rear tyres, front and rear springs, exhaust camshaft sensors, headlamp level sensors, and underside cavity waxing.

HISTORY FILE

This magnificent E39 M5 in attractive Le Mans Blue was first registered in June 2001. It has now driven a modest 95,115 miles in the hands of only 2 registered keepers, the current since 2016. The original leather document wallet and handbooks are all retained along with a spare remote key, a thick raft of invoices and documentation, MOT certificates, and the service book that’s fully stamped up to November 2024, as below.
