A wonderfully characterful Ford Consul Mk1 that drives remarkably well for a car built more than 70 years ago.

First introduced in 1951, the Consul represented a major technological step forward for Ford in Britain. It was the company’s first all-new post-war model and introduced unitary construction, 1.7-litre engine, hydraulic brakes, a hydraulic clutch and independent front suspension.

The Consul was the four-cylinder member of Ford’s new model range, sitting alongside the larger six-cylinder Zephyr. Its comfortable bench seating, column-mounted gear change and comparatively modern styling made it an appealing family saloon during the early 1950s.

This 1955 example comes from almost four and a half years with our vendor and is presented in an attractive two-tone combination of black over cream, complemented by a burgundy interior and body-coloured steel wheels with chrome hubcaps.

Power comes from a 1.7-litre four-cylinder engine, paired with a three-speed manual gearbox operated through a column-mounted gear selector.
