Introduced in 2013 as the successor to the Enzo, the LaFerrari was the latest in an extraordinary bloodline of limited-production Ferrari supercars that began with the 288 GTO and continued through the F40, F50 and Enzo. It was also the most technologically advanced road car Ferrari had ever produced at time of launch. At its heart sits Ferrari’s 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12, paired with the marque’s Formula One-derived hybrid system. Together they produce 950 bhp, making the LaFerrari the first hybrid road car in Ferrari history and, at the time of its introduction, the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever built.
The importance of the LaFerrari extends far beyond its performance figures. Its carbon-fibre chassis was developed using Ferrari’s Formula One expertise, while its active aerodynamics, hybrid technology and sophisticated vehicle dynamics represented a level of engineering previously unseen in a Ferrari road car. The Ferrari LaFerrari was produced in strictly limited numbers, with just 499 coupés built and offered exclusively to selected Ferrari clients. Every example was allocated before the model was officially launched, making it one of the most exclusive and sought-after Ferraris of the modern era.
The LaFerrari also arrived during a remarkable moment in automotive history, alongside the Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1. Collectively known as the ‘Holy Trinity’, the three cars redefined what was possible from a road-going supercar.
