Named in honour of Alfredo 'Dino' Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari's son, the model was sold under the separate Dino marque and became Ferrari's first successful high-volume production car. Penned by Aldo Brovarone and Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina, its sensuous curves and perfect proportions remain a benchmark of automotive design. The 246 GT was powered by a 2,418cc transverse-mounted, mid-rear V6 engine producing 195 bhp at 7,600 rpm, driving the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. With a kerb weight of approximately 1,080 kg, independent suspension all round and four-wheel disc brakes, it offered exceptional balance, agility and driver engagement. Performance was impressive for its era, with 0-60 mph achieved in around 7 seconds and a top speed of approximately 146 mph (235 km/h).Beyond its beauty and performance, the Dino 246 GT occupies a pivotal place in Ferrari history. It established the mid-engined layout that would become the foundation of future Ferrari road cars, paving the way for models such as the 308 GTB, F355, 360 Modena and today's V8 and V6 berlinettas. Originally produced without Ferrari badging, the Dino is now universally recognised as a true Ferrari and remains one of the marque's most cherished and sought-after classics.
