Now in UK stock and ready to go is this lovely 1999 Mazda RX-7 Type RS, and having now had the opportunity to properly inspect, test and drive the car, it has turned out to be every bit as good as we hoped.

Showing just over 30,000 km, this late Series 8 Type RS was purchased in Japan with an excellent USS Grade 4.5 / Interior Grade B and is finished in factory 20P Innocent Blue Mica.

The condition of the car is what really stands out. The underside in particular needs to be seen. The floor, suspension areas, fuel-tank area and surrounding chassis components are remarkably clean and give a very good indication of the life this RX-7 has had.

It's increasingly difficult to find an FD that hasn't either covered substantial mileage, been heavily modified or deteriorated underneath. This one is a very genuine, low-kilometre example that has retained much of the character Mazda intended.

The car comes with its original Mazda service book and Mazda owner's manual, with a continuous history of Mazda main dealer servicing carried out by Mazda Tokyo and Mazda Kanto.

With the car now showing only just over 30,000 km, this represents an excellent documented history from new and is exactly the sort of provenance we like to see on a car of this calibre.

[REDLINE TUNING INSPECTION & PREPARATION]

We wanted to go further than simply importing the car and putting it straight up for sale, so once it arrived in the UK it went directly to Redline Tuning for a proper inspection, road test and mechanical assessment.

The wheels were removed and the tyres, wheel bearings, brake discs and pads checked, with Redline reporting them to be in really nice condition. Suspension joints, boots and brake lines were also inspected and found to be in excellent order.

The gearbox and differential oils were renewed, with the old fluids inspected and found clear of debris before being refilled with the correct Penrite lubricants.

A brand-new set of TEIN Flex Z adjustable coilovers was supplied and installed, set up at a sensible road height with softer damping to retain good road manners.

Importantly, the original factory Bilstein suspension is also supplied with the car.

A dedicated rotary compression test was also carried out, returning healthy and consistent results across both rotors.

Redline's overall impression matched ours — this is a very nice, honest RX-7 that drives extremely well.
