1966 Ford Mustang 289 C-Code Automatic — Tahoe Turquoise

This is an astonishingly original, rust-free example of the iconic first-generation Ford Mustang, presented in its factory-correct and particularly desirable Tahoe Turquoise coachwork.

Built in 1966 with the C chassis code, denoting the 289ci V8, and fitted with the C4 automatic transmission, this Mustang was supplied new in San Jose, California, where it remained with its one American owner from new. Its Californian provenance is reflected in the remarkably sound, rust-free body and exceptionally original character that makes this car so compelling.

Imported to the UK in 2016, the car subsequently underwent a comprehensive restoration, carefully retaining the qualities that made it such a special survivor. The body was taken back to bare metal before receiving a high-quality respray in its original Tahoe Turquoise. The result is beautifully crisp without losing the authentic appearance of a genuine period Mustang.

Mechanically, the C4 automatic transmission was rebuilt, while the steering system received all-new steering joints and the braking system was fully rebuilt. The car sits on new Continental tyres, completing the work beneath the car and ensuring that this Mustang is as enjoyable to drive as it is to look at.

Inside, the cabin has been completely renewed with an all-new OEM-specification Aqua interior, faithfully recreating the wonderfully period-correct appearance of the original car. Combined with the turquoise exterior, it is an exceptionally handsome and authentic specification.

What sets this Mustang apart is not simply the restoration itself, but the combination of genuine provenance, remarkable originality and superb condition. A San Jose car with one American owner from new, subsequently brought to the UK and restored sympathetically, it retains the unmistakable character of an original 1966 Mustang while benefiting from the mechanical and cosmetic attention required for modern enjoyment.

A 289 V8, C4 automatic, Tahoe Turquoise, Aqua interior and rust-free Californian body make this a particularly desirable specification, and examples retaining this level of originality are increasingly difficult to find.
