⭕ VEHICLE SUMMARY
Highly entertaining on the road, it offers the distinct feel of a rally-prepared car.
Ford’s Advanced Vehicle Operations at South Ockendon developed the original Ford Escort Mexico to celebrate Hannu Mikkola’s legendary victory in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally, and it became an instant cornerstone of British motorsport culture. Designed to bridge the gap between standard family transport and high-performance competition machinery, it featured a reinforced Type 49 body shell paired with a robust Crossflow engine. This combination offered accessible, competitive performance, straightforward maintainability, and exceptional chassis balance. Its success on the stage translated directly to showroom popularity, cementing its status as an iconic fast Ford whose distinctive side stripes, competition heritage, and engaging rear-wheel-drive dynamics define the golden era of classic rallying.
All standard production Mexicos were built exclusively as two-door saloons, though Ford produced six official four-door Mexico prototypes, making genuine four-door examples virtually non-existent outside of tributes and custom builds. This is where this well-finished and tastefully modified example comes in. Completed around 2020, this 1970 four-door model started life as an 1100 Super and, following a period of storage, was restored to a high standard. Fitted with a 205-block 2.0-litre Pinto engine, it features many Mexico-specification details, including Mexico-pattern front wings, a World Cup crossmember, and a Group 2 short steering coupling. Finished in Olympic Blue with a black vinyl interior, it comes with over £6,500 of recent expenditure and will be supplied with a full year's MOT. A superbly presented take on the legendary Escort Mexico, it provides an authentic rally feel with the practicality of a four-door shell, alongside the benefits of an exceptional spares network and a dedicated, loyal following.
