Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2026 on Sunday the 15th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. Estimated price: GBP 24,000 - GBP 28,000.
The Mk1 Capri debuted in 1969, perfectly judged for the times, offering a slice of glamour in an era when a rakish two-door was still a progressive choice
The 2000cc V4 GT XLR is the rarest of them all (certainly, if we discount the RS models) - the ‘Essex’ V4 in 2.0-litre guise; the 2000GT XLR was the top of the range in mid-1970 and cost £1,310
This special engine was offered in the UK only briefly (before being superseded as the 2.0-litre option by the more conventional Pinto for the Mk2 Capri)
An intriguing unit and entirely different from the ‘Cologne’ V4 offered to German Ford customers; rated at 93bhp and with 104lb ft of torque, it gives the Capri a distinctive tone and lively performance. Further adding to the rarity of this example, it comes in range-topping XLR trim on top of the 2000GT specification
The ‘X’ component of the XLR trim provides reclining front seats, separately contoured rears with a folding armrest, dipping mirror and an extra interior lamp, to which the ‘R’ (only available on GT models) adds a leather steering wheel rim and a map reading light
This Sapphire Blue Capri is a fully restored, Concours-winning example, owned (since 2006) by a genuine and knowledgeable Ford enthusiast
Imported to Ireland from the UK (reg: GLR 794L) in 2003 with c55,000 miles, now with c64,000 miles, the mileage is supported by a plethora of old MOT certificates
Restored between 2008-2010 to the highest of standards
Transmission: Manual
