Finding a good Karmann Ghia is a very hard task, finding one in this condition is almost impossible!

History

Originally supplied by Hawco Volkswagen of Elgin in 1972, the car was the sole Karmann Ghia supplied to the dealership at the time. Remarkably, the supplying dealer subsequently became the car’s custodian for almost four decades.

Originally bound for America, this Karmann Ghia ended up in Scotland due to economic instability in the USA, Volkswagen made single vehicle allocations to selected dealerships across the UK & Europe, with this example being one of the selected cars.

Included in the comprehensive history file is correspondence from Hawco, detailing the cars life.

Documents in the paperwork detail minor, touched up scratches on the car, sustained when the showroom windows were vandalised & broken in the early 90s.

Body & Paintwork

Finished in striking Saturn Yellow with a contrasting black roof, the exterior is a true 54-year-old time capsule.

Aside from some touch ups, the car has never had any paintwork whatsoever. The Saturn Yellow paintwork & black roof are entirely factory original, having never seen a paint gun since leaving the Karmann coachworks in Osnabrück.

The panels line up with factory precision & the car retains its original number plates, dealer rear window sticker & the glass is in great condition. The exterior brightwork that reflect its sheltered, indoor dealer-showcase life.

This really is a remarkable example.

Interior & Trim

Opening the door reveals an interior that is entirely untouched & period-correct. The seats, headliner, & carpets present in wonderful, preserved order.

Adding to its collector appeal, a radio has never been fitted to this car & the original factory blanking plate remains securely in place on the dashboard.The original keys, complete handbook pack, & the factory jack & tool kit accompany the vehicle, cementing its status as an unmolested survivor.

The steering wheel, gear knob, pedal rubbers & handbrake lever are all in excellent condition. There is zero wear on the carpets & the dash is uncracked & all switchgear is excellent.

As you can see from the pictures, this is a truly fantastic car.

Engine

At the rear lies Volkswagen’s legendary air-cooled flat-four engine, which starts with the first turn of the key & idles exactly as it should do.

As can clearly be seen from the pictures, the engine bay of this Karmann Ghia presents very well.

Running Gear

This Karmann Ghia drive very well as you would expect.

All running gear is in great condition with the underside being in superb original order as you would expect of a low mileage example.
