1987 FORD CAPRI

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2026 on Saturday the 14th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. Estimated price: GBP 24,000 - GBP 28,000. Introduced in 1987 to mark the end of Capri production, the Capri 280 was the final, limited-edition run of the legendary Ford Coupé which had first appeared back in 1969. Ford originally intended to build only 500 turbo-charged vehicles (by Turbo Technics) complete with gold alloy wheels, but a change of production planning meant a name change to Capri 280. These cars featured a limited slip differential, a full leather Recaro interior and 15-inch, seven-spoke alloy wheels to complement the 2.8 injected V6 engine. Just 1,038 were ever made and all were finished in Brooklands Green, resulting in them, inevitably, becoming known as 'Brooklands Capris'. As a fully loaded run-out special, the 280 came with six, deep-set dials which dominate the dash over the standard Capris which had to make do with two – alongside an AM radio/cassette and a lockable glovebox.

First registered on 24th February 1987 and supplied new by Cordiners Ford of Aberdeen, this example is build number #439 of the final 1,038 cars. Having had six former registered keepers, it has spent the last ten years in a private collection where it has patently been cherished, presenting exceptionally well throughout. The interior features the distinctive perforated Raven leather Recaro seats with contrasting red piping, in this case accompanied by the seldom seen lumbar support pads for the front seats, its original Ford radio/cassette player, an intact rear parcel shelf, and an uncracked dashboard.

The accompanying history file is substantial, containing numerous invoices, 25 previous MOT certificates supporting the indicated 60,908 miles, a selection of historic tax discs and a stamped service book displaying 19 entries. Various Ford supplementary booklets are also present, together with magazine features relating to this particular car and a 25th Anniversary Brooklands CD documenting the model's history. The Cordiners Ford supplying dealer sticker remains displayed in the rear window, providing a further link to its early history.

Offered following a decade of private collection ownership, this Capri combines documented provenance, modest indicated mileage and an extensive history file. Its current MOT is valid until July 2027, having been issued with no advisories.

With the 280 'Brooklands' now firmly established as a sought-after modern classic, this superbly-presented example offers an opportunity to acquire one of Ford's most recognisable limited-production models and one of the most collectable Capris ever.
