1998 MERCEDES-BENZ SL

The Mercedes-Benz SL R129 was introduced in 1989 as the successor to the highly regarded R107, combining classic two-seat roadster styling with improved refinement and modern technology.

The SL 280 is powered by Mercedes-Benz's smooth 2.8-litre straight-six engine, paired with an automatic gearbox for effortless cruising.

This Mercedes-Benz SL 280 Automatic was first registered on 10th August 1998 and presents as a smart, straight and usable example. The silky-smooth six-cylinder engine starts readily and runs quietly, while the automatic gearbox operates smoothly.

The electric convertible roof operates as it should, as does the removable hardtop, which releases and locks correctly. The car has recently benefited from four nearly new Pirelli tyres fitted to unmarked alloy wheels, together with a brand-new NAPA/Fahren battery fitted on 26th June 2026. An MOT carried out at the end of April passed with no advisories following a minor initial ABS warning-light issue, which was traced to a broken sensor wire and rectified.

The interior presents well and benefits from an excellent heating system. The SL is particularly enjoyable with the roof down and offers impressively low wind buffeting at motorway speeds. A six-disc CD changer is fitted in the boot.
