Description
Possibly the best colour a Defender can be in, very sought after and rare 821 Galway Green Metallic.A stunning colour which looks almost black in the shade and then pops with deep green metallic, when in the sunlight. The paint presents very well with only a few minor blemishes, consummate with age.The roof was recently fully resprayed in Galway green to address lacquer peel that blights most Defenders, over time.
As standard, when it left the factory, the spec of the truck was as follows:
Electric Windows
Heated Seats
Headlight levelling system
Heated Windscreen
This Defender has been comprehensively updated over its lifetime to keep on top of both maintenance and overall condition. The list of upgrades is as follows:
Mechanicals –
·Empire Tuning – Stage 1 remap with EGR delete and speed limiter removal – The truck pulls so well in every gear and will happily sit at 70mph on the motorway, barely breaking a sweat! Its running at approximately 165BHP with around 500nm of torque.
·To compliment the Remap it has also been fitted with an Alli Sport Lift Pro Intercooler as well as high quality silicone Pipes. The intercooler is less than a month old.
·In addition, to the intercooler and to make the most of the tune, it also has a Demand Engineering Stainless Steel bespoke exhaust system with standard Downpipe, straight through centre section and 3-inch transitional silenced rear section.Retaining the original sound of the stock LR system it replaced but allowing the engine to breathe better. No loud droning at higher speeds or pops and bangs. These systems are handmade and are a work of art with a waiting list for a new one, at present.
·Suspension wise it sits on ARB Old Man Emu Shocks and springs at the rear and standard suspension at the front. All 4 wheels have recently been Balanced and 4 wheel alignment completed making the truck drive straight and true.
·The front swivel joints have recently been replaced, and the discs and pads are all nearly new with Vented discs at the rear.
·All the fluids have had a recent service including Gearbox oil, Transfer box oil and Diffs oils.
·In the last month, the Injectors have all been removed, cleaned reseated with proper copper washers, reprogrammed to the ECU and the truck also had a new land rover OEM rocker/camshaft cover installed with new gaskets and stretch bolts.
·New LOF Clutch and Output shaft in the past 40,000 miles with LOF power spring.Clutch still very good with no output shaft bearing rattle or judder.
·Syncro Gearboxes Slickshift upgrade, wakes a world of difference to the gear changes.
·Comprehensive file with invoices detailing service history throughout its life and evidence of ongoing maintenance. It was serviced around 1000 miles ago.
Exterior –
This Defender has been upgraded over its lifetime to give it the look it currently has today. It’s been modelled to look more aggressive than a standard 90 and the following has been added to the truck to achieve the look, which I would describe as OEM+.
·Bowler Light Weight 18″ Lightweight Wheels in gloss black with ET15 offset. These are the wheels that Bowler motorsport developed for the Bowler challenge.Widely regarded as the pinnacle of wheels for a Defender, my truck wears them shod with 285/60/R18 BFG KO2 All terrain tyres, which are all virtually brand new. These are not cheap knock offs and cost thousands on their own. It has locking wheel nuts.
·The spare wheel is on a chassis mounted Terrafirma swing away spare wheel carrier to keep the weight off the rear door and hinges and is also a Bowler wheel with BFG KO2 tyre.
·The wheels are mounted to the hubs with 30mm Predator spacers and to accommodate the wider track, 40mm colour coded wheel arch extensions have also been fitted to the truck. This set up, gives the truck the perfect stance for a 90, with a significantly wider track than standard.
·It has a KBX front grille with silver mesh, KBX light surrounds and KBX wing top vents, as well as black chequer plate to the Bonnet tops and front wings.
·It has a standard Defender front bumper with a heavy-duty steering guard slung underneath, protecting the upgraded Terrafirma steering damper. It has subtle red accents to both the Tow hooks and Radiator frame, behind the grille.
·The Mirror arms are Black anodised Optimill, with puddle lights and the Door handles are also Optimill black anodised ones.
·It has Fire and Ice side steps and OEM Landrover Mud flaps with new fixings and bolts.
·All the lights are upgraded WIPAC LED units, which retain the original look and colouring of the standard defender lights, with significant improvements in brightness and reliability.IMO, the original look-coloured lights look far better with Galway green than the smoked or clear lights, many fit to their trucks, contributing to the OEM+ look.
·It has a full towing pack with Towbar and integrated Hitch receiver pin with full and working towing electrics.
Interior –
The inside of the truck has also been comprehensively upgraded over standard with the following enhancements.
·Fully sound deadened Front to back with high quality insulation, making the cabin a nice quiet place to be and warm in the winter.
·Fully Carpeted throughout with high quality Exmoor trim carpets
·Rear seats recovered with high Quality Exmoor Trim covers.
·Full OEM ‘Defender’ Rubber mats to both front and rear of truck
·Leather faced Instrument binnacle, passenger dash top and Grab Handle with green stitching
·BB RS Black Alcantara Heated Front seats of new runners with Defender adaptor plates, so they both recline and move back and forwards. The seats on risers to give good clearance and a comfortable driving position. As the seats with no removeable bases, the truck has been fitted with a remote battery cutoff system that can be activated from the key fob.
·MOMO Prototipo Black series Steering wheel on an Alcantara covered slimline Boss.
·Black Alcantara Cubby Box and lid
·Stainless steel door tread plates on both front doors.
·Optimill Billet Aluminium Black Gear and Hi-Lo shift sticks
·Optimill Billet Aluminium Black Door Handles
·Optimill Billet Aluminium Black Lock pins and surrounds
·LED interior lights.
·Bulkhead delete bar
·MUD footwell heater deflectors
·Tinted rear windows
·It has also been fitted with a Leisure battery split charging system that runs separately to the main battery. There is a separate control unit for this battery neatly installed by the Cubby box and multiple charging points around the cabin of the truck off which you can run ancillary devices such as fridges or camping lights without draining power from the main battery.Great for when you venture off the beaten track.
In car entertainment –
Standard Defender stereos and speakers were basic from the factory. My truck has had a comprehensive upgrade of its ICE with the following components:
·Sony XAV-AX8050D DAB 9.5-inch multimedia Head Unit with Android Auto / Apple Carplay
·Pioneer 6-inch coaxial Mids and tweeters in dashboard
·Pioneer TS – WX130EA Active Subwoofer (Mounted to rear of cubby box)
·Alpine SXE – 6925S 6x9 Coaxial Speakers discreetly mounted in Speaker boxes behind the rear seats, powered by a Juice 500w amplifier installed under a false floor in the front cubby box.
·High quality 3 core speaker wire installed throughout the cab for maximum sound clarity.
The whole set up sounds awesome with the truck being fully insulated and sound deadened on the inside.
In Summary –
I am sure there are some things I have missed but hopefully the above description gives an essence of the work that has gone into this Defender to make it unique. It’s a well maintained, tastefully upgraded truck where the enhancements have improved many of the shortcomings that this iconic 4x4 had when it came out of the factory.
To take a standard Defender and make it drive, look, handle and sound like mine would cost well into five figures, financially, and all the modifications, have been done with very premium products from some of the most well-known Defender aftermarket brands out there.Namely Empire Tuning, Bowler, Optimill, LOF, Allisport ARB, MUD, WIPAC, Sony, Alpine etc etc..The Bowler wheels and tyres alone cost the best part of £5k.
It is ready to go to its next owner has a long MOT and, in my opinion, wants for nothing. The chassis is sound, having been treated to regular, cleaning and undersealing throughout its life. The rear crossmember was replaced a few years back and is still solid, as well.
I have owned several Defenders over the years, and this one is head and shoulders above all of them in the way it drives and looks. It gets positive comments, everywhere I take it.
Available to view now, it comes with 2x keys, 2x alarm fobs and all the paperwork accumulated over its lifetime.Private Number plate currently on the car will be retained and it will revert to its original numberplate.
