This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 29th October on Thursday the 29th of October, Online. Estimated price: GBP 22,000 - GBP 26,000. Background:
Introduced in 2003, the fifth-generation Maserati Quattroporte represented a bold and rather refreshing alternative to the established luxury saloons of the period. Whilst its German rivals concentrated on technological sophistication and understated efficiency, Maserati approached the luxury four-door concept with a distinctly Italian philosophy, combining elegant Pininfarina styling, a wonderfully characterful V8 engine and the sort of sporting pedigree that few manufacturers could genuinely claim.
The result was a car that looked and felt quite unlike anything else in its class. Its long bonnet, flowing roofline, muscular rear haunches and distinctive Maserati grille gave the Quattroporte an unmistakable presence, whilst the beautifully appointed interior offered the comfort and refinement expected of a luxury saloon. Even today, the Pininfarina design has aged remarkably well, retaining an elegance and individuality that continues to distinguish it from its contemporaries.
The introduction of the revised Quattroporte range in 2008 brought a number of worthwhile improvements, including updated exterior styling, revised lighting, interior enhancements and, most importantly, the arrival of the Quattroporte S with its enlarged 4.7-litre naturally-aspirated V8.
Developed in collaboration with Ferrari, this magnificent engine produced 424bhp and 490Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels through a smooth six-speed ZF automatic transmission. Capable of reaching 62mph in approximately 5.4 seconds and continuing to a top speed of around 174mph, the Quattroporte S offered performance that was more than sufficient to justify its sporting credentials.
Complementing the additional performance, the Quattroporte S also benefited from an upgraded braking system, featuring substantial six-piston Brembo front brake callipers in place of the smaller arrangement fitted to the standard 4.2-litre model. These provided the additional stopping power appropriate to the more powerful V8, further reinforcing the S model's sporting credentials.
However, impressive as those figures are, they tell only part of the story. Much of the appeal of the Quattroporte S lies in the character of its V8, particularly the soundtrack. The active exhaust system features vacuum-operated valves which open in Sport mode, allowing a more direct exhaust flow and releasing a considerably more purposeful aural output. From a distinctive V8 burble at lower speeds to a glorious, hard-edged Italian V8 howl as the revs rise, it remains one of the most addictive-sounding engines fitted to a luxury saloon. It's this combination of effortless grand touring ability and genuine sporting theatre that makes the Quattroporte S such an engaging car to drive.
The Car:
Dating from 2009, this particularly attractive Quattroporte S has covered remarkably little mileage for its age, indicating just 24,578 miles at the time of cataloguing, supported by its accompanying MOT and service records. For a luxury performance saloon now 17 years old, this is an exceptionally modest figure and undoubtedly one of the car's most appealing attributes.
Equally encouraging is the care this example has received throughout its life, supported by a particularly reassuring documented service history. Seven consecutive services were undertaken by H.R. Owen Maserati in London between 2011 and 2023, with the most recent service completed by Lookers Volkswagen Teesside in October 2025 at 23,528 miles. The consistency of this maintenance, despite the car's exceptionally modest annual mileage, is a particularly appealing aspect of its history.
Documented servicing includes:
October 2011 – 6,973 miles – Service – H.R. Owen Maserati Ferrari London
October 2013 – 11,988 miles – Service – H.R. Owen Maserati Ferrari London
October 2015 – 15,544 miles – Service – H.R. Owen Maserati London
October 2017 – 19,086 miles – Service – H.R. Owen Maserati London
October 2019 – 20,050 miles – Service – H.R. Owen Maserati London
October 2021 – 20,386 miles – Service – H.R. Owen Maserati London
October 2023 – 21,615 miles – Service – H.R. Owen Maserati London
October 2025 – 23,528 miles – Service – Lookers Volkswagen Teesside
In addition to the regular servicing, the auxiliary belt and V-belt were replaced in 2025 as a precautionary measure, further demonstrating the attention given to the car's ongoing maintenance despite its exceptionally low mileage.
The specification of the Quattroporte S was suitably generous, reflecting its position as one of Maserati's flagship models. The interior combines traditional Italian craftsmanship with the convenience and comfort expected of a luxury executive saloon, with sumptuous leather upholstery, electrically adjustable seating, dual-zone climate control, an integrated infotainment system, cruise control and a host of other comfort and convenience features. This example also benefits from an electrically operated rear passenger blind, controllable from both the front and rear seats, providing an additional touch of luxury for those travelling in the rear.
The Quattroporte's appeal extends beyond its equipment, however. The driving environment is unmistakably Maserati, with its distinctive dashboard design, elegant detailing and sporting instrumentation, whilst the spacious rear accommodation makes it every bit as capable of carrying passengers in comfort as it is of entertaining its driver. Few luxury saloons manage to combine these qualities with quite the same sense of occasion.
Externally, this example benefits from the revised styling of the facelifted Quattroporte, including its distinctive updated rear light clusters. The Pininfarina coachwork presents particularly well, having benefited from a full paint correction in April 2026, together with the application of paint protection film (PPF) covering the entire bonnet, door mirrors and vulnerable front impact areas. This provides additional protection against stone chips and general road wear. Further attention was given to the car's presentation in 2025, when the alloy wheels were fully refurbished and repainted, complemented by a new set of Pirelli P Zero tyres fitted on all four corners.
Condition:
This Quattroporte S continues to present extremely well, benefiting from its exceptionally modest mileage and the cosmetic attention detailed above. A fresh MOT was issued in September 2026, complementing its comprehensive documented service history and the precautionary replacement of the auxiliary and V-belts in 2025.
There is something rather special about this generation of Maserati. It offers the elegance of Pininfarina styling, the comfort and generous equipment of a genuine luxury saloon and, perhaps most importantly, the performance, character and extraordinary soundtrack of a naturally aspirated Ferrari-derived V8. With just 24,578 miles indicated, a generous specification and an impressive service history featuring seven Maserati main dealer services, finding another example of this generation on the UK market combining all three attributes could prove quite a challenge. A particularly appealing opportunity to experience one of Italy's most charismatic luxury performance saloons.
