Description
A Rare “Hens’ Teeth” Find – A Properly Built Volkswagen Group ClassicA genuinely rare car. Having searched for another like it, I have yet to find one. This is from an era when the Volkswagen Group was building cars to a very high standard, with an emphasis on quality, durability and engineering rather than unnecessary frills. In my view, this is one of the last of that breed.Originally purchased new by an elderly gentleman who sadly passed away, the car has had a quiet life and has covered very low mileage as a result.Importantly, this is the desirable rare! four-wheel-drive model, fitted with the renowned 1. 9-litre VAG diesel engine, widely respected for its durability and longevity. It is a six-speed manual, with a useful specification including alloy wheels, four electric windows, remote central locking and alarm, original period radio/ CD player, dual-zone climate control, multiple airbags, unused looking towbar and electric mirrors. (We can upgraded the stereo to incorporate a colour touchscreen Apple CarPlay with music streaming from our trusted car audio installer at cost price)Service History and Recent WorkThe car was maintained by a Škoda main dealer for its first three years, before moving to a Bosch-approved service centre. The mechanic who looked after it subsequently established his own mobile servicing business, and the previous owner continued to use him. It was a convenient arrangement, particularly given how little the car was driven.Following the owner’s passing, his relative, from whom I purchased the car, explained that four new tyres had been fitted. Although only two had been recommended, the mechanic advised replacing all four because of the four-wheel-drive system. The timing belt was also replaced last month, before the sale, as a precautionary measureCondition and PresentationThe car presents beautifully, both inside and out. There are no signs of smoking, pets or the wear often associated with young children. The original interior has been exceptionally well preserved, with the original carpets protected by a boot liner that remains in excellent condition. The original floor mats are also included and show very little wear.It comes with a stamped service book, two factory keys and the original owner’s manual. With a long MOT, inexpensive road tax and excellent fuel economy, this is an appealing proposition for anyone who appreciates a well-maintained, honest car with proven mechanicals.A genuinely uncommon car with a good history, sensible recent maintenance and the sort of engineering that is becoming increasingly difficult to find. Ideal for the enthusiast who values substance over fashion.
