Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2026 on Sunday the 15th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. Estimated price: GBP 3,000 - GBP 5,000.
Launched in October 1997 and built at Solihull, the Freelander gave Land Rover a compact 4x4 and became Europe’s best selling four-wheel drive for five consecutive years
This three-door hardback is finished in Silver with a green and grey cloth interior, alloy wheels and a rear mounted spare wheel
We are reliably informed the car was owned by the Land Rover Company Vehicles Department until January 2001. It was registered on 10/09/1997 as an ‘LR 90 4c SW’ to deter the press from spotting Land Rover’s new model, supported by the DVLA record and copies of the original Land Rover registration documents
R214 BAC was pictured in Auto Express in 1997, was the test car for an eight-page Autocar feature in January 1998 and, we understand, appeared on the cover of Top Gear in 1998 with a seven-page article
Power comes from the 1.8-litre Rover K Series 16-valve petrol engine (118bhp), driving all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox
According to HPI records, it is noted as being a Category D write off, registered as such on 24/09/2004
An unrestored piece of Land Rover history, ready for light recommissioning. Copies of all the magazines are included, along with some older MOT Certificates
