Description
The Vanquish represented a considerable leap forward for Aston Martin when it was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2001. Developed from Ian Callum's Project Vantage concept, its aluminium and carbon fibre structure was cloaked in hand-finished aluminium bodywork. Beneath the bonnet sat their in-house, hand-built 5.9-litre V12, producing 460bhp and 400lb ft of torque delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission operated by an electro-hydraulic paddle shift system, and offering 0-60mph in around five seconds on its way to 190mph.
This particular example was first supplied through Aston Martin Mayfair and first registered on 1st June 2003, finished in Tungsten Silver over Charcoal. Its factory specification included 2+2 seating, heated front seats and windscreen, satellite navigation, rear parking sensors, 'powerfold' mirrors and black brake calipers.
When we previously offered the car in 2020, its fascinating early history formed an important part of its appeal. It was catalogued as having been registered new to the Royal Privy Purse of Windsor Road, Ascot, remaining in that custodianship until 2016. The accompanying history adds another intriguing element, with a keeper record identifying HM King Abdullah II of Jordan, alongside the wording 'Royal Purse' and the St Martins Stables address on Windsor Road. Period Aston Martin invoices are addressed to Whitestone Capital at the same address, providing a continuous documentary trail throughout this period.
The Vanquish was originally registered LF03 VNN, a registration which, according to our previous catalogue and reasons unknown to us, could not be returned to the car when it left its first custodianship. It subsequently became LE03 YYF, which it retains today.
Its history file is as impressive as the car’s condition. The mileage trail begins with its Aston Martin Mayfair PDI at just 130 miles in May 2003, followed by servicing with Aston Martin Mayfair, Amersham and Works Service. In 2011, Aston Martin Works carried out extensive investigation and remedial work to an oil leak, whilst later invoices document continued maintenance with Christian Lewis, Bamford Rose and Aston Martin Brentford. Particularly notable is a £6,865 invoice from Bamford Rose in 2018 for a replacement clutch and associated work.
By the time we sold the car in August 2020, it had covered just 16,707 miles, supported by its extensive service and MOT history. It has continued to be used sparingly since, with an invoice from independent Aston Martin specialist, AJ Tech, in February 2025 recording 21,631 miles. The car was used and enjoyed by our vendor throughout his ownership, remaining with him until his passing in 2026.
Accompanied by its substantial history file, factory information, invoices, previous ownership records and spare keys, this is an especially interesting example of Aston Martin's landmark modern-era flagship. Its low mileage and extensive documentation would be noteworthy in their own right, but the unusual and well documented Royal provenance gives this Vanquish a story few others can match.
