Description
In 2002, Porsche's 911 (996) received a mid-cycle refresh that addressed common criticisms regarding aesthetics, material quality, and engine performance. The M96 engine was extended to 3.6-litres with a power increase to 315bhp and benefitted from VarioCam Plus which replaced the original VarioCam system. The 6-speed manual transmission in Gen 2 received an upgraded Getrag design with three input-shaft roller bearings instead of two, increasing long-term durability and the electronic "drive-by-wire" (EGAS) system was further updated. Externally the only changes were the adoption of 'Turbo' headlights and revised front and rear bumpers.
Finished in Lapis Blue with a black leather interior, this immaculate, manual gearbox, 996.2 Carrera 2 was delivered new to its first owner by main dealer Lancaster Porsche Cambridge. Nicely specified options included 18’’ Carrera 5-spoke alloys, sports electric front leather seats, rear wiper, Harmon Audio, sunroof, leather rear seats and leather dash and door trims.
The service book carries an incredible eighteen service stamps perfectly corroborating its mileage of 55,864 miles and reassuringly multiple invoices recently addressing maintenance schedules. Nine of the early service stamps show that the car was maintained on the UK mainland before going to the Isle of Man in 2013 and the first service there starts at 45,464 miles. From 2014 to 2025 all eight services were carried out by South Coast Performance Cars on the Island and up to 53,800 miles. Within the last thousand miles and from 2018 there are multiple invoices covering a lot of remedial work to maintain the Porsche to a high level. In 2018, the exhaust manifolds were removed and all studs replaced, in 2020, only three thousand miles ago, all the brakes hoses were replaced, in 2024 it had a air-bag sensor replaced and an air-conditioning service and in June 2025, the engine and gearbox were removed replacing the clutch, the intermediate shaft bearing ( IMS), rear main oil seal, various control valves, oil pump seal and various sundries items - all invoiced in the history file. At some point, the front subframe was removed and the steering rack received new hydraulic hoses.
All this essential mechanical work was carried within the last thousand miles and addressed the usual time-related issues with a 996, so hopefully giving another fifty thousand miles of enjoyable motoring. The file also shows invoices from detailing companies showing the care taken to ensure this super 911 looks pin sharp and a worthy candidate, given the recent improvement in 996 values.
An impressive maintenance record second to none, manual Carrera 2 in the best colour combination and at a realistic guide.
