Description
The 1970 Porsche 911T represents a major milestone in early 911 history, serving as the entry-level "Touring" model sitting just beneath the mid-tier 911E and top-tier 911S. The 1970 model-year introduced the upgraded 2.2-litre (2195cc) engine, replacing the older 2.0-litre units and pushing factory output up to 125bhp. Alterations to suspension pick-up points improved the handling and gave a little more steering feel and 6'' Fuchs 'five-leaf' forged alloys were now a standard fit.
Delivered new to Los Angeles California this delightfully restored 1970 Porsche 911T 2.2-litre remains in its factory specification of Burgundy (2424) with Black Leatherette and Basket-weave Inlays. According to its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity issued in 2014, options included Leather Steering Wheel, Instruments and Oil Tank like 911S and coloured windows.
This a matching numbers example and was imported to the UK in 2014 since when it has been enjoyed by two keepers who have obviously cared for this stunning 911. Its first UK owner, a garage proprietor in Cornwall, purchased a new Lakewell Porsche Interior kit renowned for their OEM factory specifications on colours, materials and edge binding. The kit was a substantial £2,837.04 and includes door pockets which function well, unlike most elderly restorations, and has obviously been fitted professionally. A new wiring harness was ordered from Kroon to original spiral colour coded specification and the history file contains an image of the freshly rebuilt engine looking good enough to display in any Porsche Dealership.
Our vendor has owned the Porsche from November 2018 and the history file contains multiple invoices through to 2022 including detail work by Porsche Specialists Carrera Classic Cars LTd. in Chertsey, a letter to a dial refurbishment specialist for a clean-up and any bezel re-painting with a note from the owner specifically asking that the mileage was kept the same. It's fitted with a period radio which may well be the original. The MOT history goes back to 2017 charting basically five hundred miles use per annum and the odometer currently displays 65,427 miles which could quite possibly be the original mileage. Our consignor did drive the car on test and found it be delightful, nimble and free-revving.
Early 911s possess a certain purity of line, a complete world away from the aerodynamic extravagances of the eighties and nineties, and in terms of style, it's the early cars that engender the most appreciative glances. A well set-up and maintained 911T, even with only 125bhp, when driven with an intelligent right foot will provide some of the most quintessentially rewarding driving experiences you have ever had, and will leave you with a serious grin on your face!
